Nursing program

• Wesleyan’s Nursing training program was created to help students explore the pathways to the healing sciences and also arts found in nursing. Students participate in an intensive curriculum, which readies graduates to enter the profession as safe, skilled professionals who demonstrate critical thinking, effective communication as well as a foundation for graduate study in nursing.
• The objective of the nursing faculty is to prepare graduates to enter the profession of nursing as qualified, safe practitioners who demonstrate critical thinking skills, efficient communication and also possess an excellent foundation for graduate study in nursing.
• Wesleyan’s BSN training program is fully authorized by the West Virginia Board of Examiners for Registered Nurses and also certified by CCNE.

Following are the minimum requirements for BSN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

Criteria for Selection and Admission to the Nursing Program

1. Qualified applicants are accepted by the College as pre-nursing majors. (See current College catalog.)
2. Students accepted as pre-nursing majors complete Anatomy and Physiology I & II and PSYCH 237 Lifespan or equivalent prior to application to the School of Nursing. They will also be encouraged to take The Language of Healthcare as an elective
3. Pre-nursing majors must formally apply to be accepted into the School of Nursing.
4. Criteria for acceptance include:
   1. Submission of a formal application.
   2. A minimum college cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher.
   3. Completion of A&P I & II and Lifespan Psychology with a C or higher (up to one course repeat allowed for nursing, science, or nursing support courses.
   4. And a score of Proficient or higher on the TEAS test (Test of Essential Academic Skills [ATI]) given fall semester of freshman year.

Criteria are subject to chance as required by advanced placement status, participation in the Honors program, and the need for developmental courses and/or nursing curriculum revisions.  If nursing or support course credit is more than 5 years old, the course will need to be retaken.

5. Students transferring from another nursing program must meet the following requirements:
6. Submit a formal application and ALL academic transcripts to the School of Nursing Director prior to admission to the School of Nursing.
7. Have a G.P.A. of 3.0 or higher.
8. Complete at least 12 credit hours including Anatomy and Physiology with a “C” or higher.
9. Transfer equivalent nursing courses with a “C” or higher grade for 220, 222.
10. Complete a personal interview or telephone conference with the SON Director.
11. Complete the TEAS test.
12. If nursing or support course credit is more than 5 years old, then the course will have to be retaken.
13. Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Students must meet the following requirements:
14. Submit a formal application and ALL academic transcripts to the School of Nursing Director prior to admission to the School of Nursing.
15. Provide proof of licensure.
16. Have a G.P.A. of 3.0.
17. Submit two letters of recommendation.
18. Personal interview with the SON Director.
