Nursing program
This 72 credit-hour program is intended to allow students to obtain an Associate in Applied Science degree in Nursing upon completion of the two-year succession. The program has the approval of the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation and accreditation by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, Inc (ACEN).
The Associate in Applied Science degree in Nursing makes the graduate eligible for NCLEX-RN and application for Illinois licensure as a registered nurse (RN). Due to the nature of individual instruction and clinical experiences required for this program, the equipment and specialized technology necessary to offer the program, a higher tuition rate is involved for career-specific courses. These entail courses with the NUR prefix. Tuition for these kinds of courses is 200 percent of the standard tuition rate.
About the school
William Rainey Harper College is a comprehensive community college established in 1965 but opened in 1967 in Palatine, Illinois. It is named after Dr. William Rainey Harper who was a pioneer in the junior college movement and the first president of the University of Chicago.
Harper College has a 200-acre campus approximately 25 miles northwest of downtown Chicago, Illinois in the colony of Palatine. Harper College provides over 50 transfer options, enabling students to obtain their associate degree before transferring to a university or a four-year college to complete their bachelor’s degree.
The college also offers over 40 career programs which grant a certificate and an associate degree or provide the necessary skills to enter the workforce. These programs span in length from sixteen weeks to two years.
Total tuition cost of the program for In-District Residents is $8,586.00, Out-of-district $27,090.00, Out-of-state $32,526.00 and same for international students.
Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:
- This file review meeting will be held as soon as possible following the program deadline.
- A “final” minimum admission score will be determined, and those applicants whose ranking scores are at or above that minimum will be considered.
- Admission cannot be guaranteed, and will depend upon ranking score, residency and number of seats available.
- If there are more applicants who meet the minimum score than space available, the following will factor into the admission decision process:
- ° Permanent residents of Harper’s district and residents of community college districts which do not offer a Nursing degree program and are members of the CAREER consortium; who have satisfied the minimum admission score and who have applied by the application deadline will be admitted (in accordance with college agreements) in ranking score order, before any out-of-district applicants.
- ° Residency is determined by the Registrar’s Office; the address on record with the College will be used by the admission selection committee when they determine admission decisions. Working in district does not constitute residency for limited enrollment selection purposes.
□ Depending on the number of qualified applicants eligible for admission when admission decisions are made, it is possible that contingency offers may be extended to applicants who are in the process of completing an admission requirement (except for the NLN percentile minimums, which must be satisfied in order to submit a program application). When/If contingency offers are extended, the contingent requirement(s) must be satisfied within the semester in which the deadline falls.
□ Provided a program is open past the published deadline, any qualified applicant who submits an application after that date will be considered after all qualified applicants who applied by deadline. Applications will continue to be accepted until the program is closed. Check the web site for information on the application status.
- It is not possible to predict what ranking score an applicant will need in order to be accepted through the Standard Admission process. However, NLN scores in the 80’s and 90’s and A’s and B’s in BIO 160 and BIO 161 make applicants more competitive in the selection process. Although satisfaction of minimum admission requirements will result in an admission decision, it does not guarantee acceptance.
