Nursing Program

The Associate Degree Nursing curriculum at Western Piedmont Community College provides competencies, knowledge, and techniques to incorporate safety and quality into nursing care, to practice in an evolving environment, and to fulfill personal needs which impact health, high quality of life, and also achievement of potential.

Course work includes and builds upon the domains of nursing practice, health-care, as well as the holistic individual. Content highlights the nurse as an associate of the interdisciplinary team providing safe, personalized care while implementing evidence-based practice, high-quality improvement, and also informatics.

Graduates of this training program meet the requirements to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination for registered nurse (NCLEX-RN). The nursing training program is certified by Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, Inc. (ACEN).

About The School

Western Piedmont Community College is a small community college situated in Morganton in western North Carolina, United States. It is the residence of the Sam J. Ervin Library, committed to the veteran U.S.A senator, a Morganton local, who led the Senate Watergate hearings in the year 1973.

Western Piedmont Community College was acquired on April 2, in the year 1964, as an associate of the North Carolina Community College System.

Total estimated program cost is USD $11,020

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

Completion of all requirements does not guarantee admission into the nursing class.

  1. Complete of a Western Piedmont Community College Admission Application with Nursing as major by January.
  2. Submission of official high school and all college transcripts.
  3. Cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 on all post-secondary coursework within the last 7 years.
  4. NC DAP Developmental Reading and English Composite score of 151 or above, or completion of DRE 098, or completion of a college level English course with a grade of “C” or better.
  5. NC DAP score of 7 or above, completion of DMA 010, 020, 030, 040, 050 and 060, 070, 080, or college level algebra course with a grade of “C” or better within the last 7 years.
  6. Completion of high school chemistry, CHM 130 or CHM 131 or higher with a grade of “C” or better within the last 7 years.
  7. Completion of high school biology, BIO 111 or BIO 168 with a grade of “C” or better within the last 7 years.
  8. Submission of a certificate of completion/transcript from a state approved Nurse Aid I program and an active DHSR listing. For more information, call the Foothills Higher Education Center at 828-448-6140 or visit http://www.wpcc.edu/continuing-education/allied-health-programs/nurse-aide/ .
  9. Completion of ATI Test of Essential Academic Skills (ATI TEAS) with a minimum score in the proficient category. A schedule of ATI TEAS test offerings will be posted September 30, 2017 in Student Services, and online at www.wpcc.edu.
