Nursing Program

The Associate Degree-Nursing Program (ADN) in Western Nebraska Community College prepares eligible pupils with the skills required to enter the profession of nursing.

Training program graduates are qualified to take/sit the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nursing (NCLEX-RN). Upon passing the examination, pupils are qualified to practice as registered nurses. The training program comprises of four college semesters of nursing courses.

Pupils attend the nursing training program on a regular basis. Pupils do classroom work and clinical rotations during the school season. Clinical rotations take place all through days and evening, and possibly on weekends. Graduates will earn an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

About the school

Western Nebraska Community College (abbreviated as WNCC) is a community college in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, United States. Its athletics teams are best known as the Cougars.

Western Nebraska Community College was formerly referred to as Scottsbluff Junior College, Scotts Bluff County College, and Nebraska Western College.

Western Nebraska Community College also has two additional campuses in  Nebraska, Sidney, and Alliance, Nebraska, USA.

The State Legislature created the Western Technical Community College Area in 1973, which consisted of Nebraska Western College, Western Nebraska Technical College as well as the Alliance School of Practical Nursing. On July 1, the year 1978, the Area Board of Governors put all three establishments into a single college, several campus setting. July 1, 1988, the Board of Governors terminated the separate campus titles and modified the name of the institution to Western Nebraska Community College.

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

Prerequisite courses:

  • BIOS- 1540 Physiology & Anatomy 1
  • BIOS- 1620 Physiology & Anatomy 2
  • CHEM- 1500 Introductory Chemistry
  • ENGL- 1500 English Composition 1
  • PSYC- 1810 Introduction to Psychology
  • PSYC- 2150 Life Span: Human Growth & Development
  • BIOS- 2050 Nutrition & Diet Therapy
  • BIOS- 2460 Microbiology
  • ADNR- 1132 Pathophysiology 1
  • ADNR- 1134 Pathophysiology 2

*Anatomy and Physiology 1 & 2, Microbiology, and Chemistry must have final grade of B- or higher and the credits cannot be older than ten years.

*Advanced Placement Students must be College Algebra ready and provide proof of an unencumbered LPN license.
