Nursing Program

The Associate Degree Nursing training program of study at Wake Technical Community College provides pupils with the competencies, knowledge, and techniques to incorporate safety and quality into nursing care, to practice in an evolving world, and to fulfill personal needs which impact the quality of life, health, and also achievement of potential.

Graduates of the training program meet the requirements to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX), which is needed to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN). Employment possibilities include clinics, hospitals, long-term care facilities, physicians’ offices, industry, and community organizations.

About The School

Wake Technical Community College is a licensed, two (2) year, community college offering associates degrees (AD), technical certification, and also non-credit courses.

Total estimated program cost is USD $11,105

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

  1. Apply to Wake Tech- Complete the Wake Tech Community College Application for Admission.
  2. Attend a MANDATORY Information Session for Nursing on the Health Sciences Campus.
  3. Provide official transcripts (in a sealed envelope) of ALL previous education, including high school or GED scores and college transcripts if applicable. Applications will not be processed until ALL transcripts have been received.  Faxed or opened transcripts are not official and will not be accepted. High school transcripts must be complete and must show date of graduation.
  4. Submit a separate application (Form 1486) for the Associate Degree Nursing program (clinical). All the requirements above must have been met or the application will not be reviewed. The application deadline is January 31st for the fall semester and July 31st for the spring semester.
  5. Demonstrate chemistry proficiency. The chemistry proficiency requirement may be satisfied by completing ONE of the following: a college-level basic chemistry course from a U.S. regionally-accredited institution with a grade of “C” or better; or one unit of a high school chemistry course with a grade of “C” or better; or CHM 090 (Chemistry Concepts) or an equivalent CHM 090 with a grade of “C” or better; or the self-taught chemistry tutorial unit in the Individualized Learning Center with a grade of 85 or higher.
  6. Complete ATI TEAS or TEAS V testing (Test of Essential Academic Skills). It is advisable to take the TEAS after you have completed ENG 111, ENG 112, BIO 168, and BIO 169.
  7. Certified Nurse Aide 1 (CNA 1) This course must be completed, your certification must be current, and you must be listed on the North Carolina Nurse Aide registry (ncnar.org) by the Nursing application deadline. Verification documents are attached to the Nursing clinical application. The Nurse Aide training must be either (1) completed at a state-approved facility OR  (2) you’ll need to document completion of 200 hours worked as a CNA 1. Make sure to check with the school where you’ll be completing the Nurse Aide training since there may be specific documents they’ll need for you to be eligible to complete the class or take the credentialing exam.
  8. Have a GPA of 2.0 or higher on coursework completed at Wake Tech.
