Nursing Program

The Associate Degree Nursing Training program at Vance–Granville Community College which leads to licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN), admits pupils each and every fall.

The ADN training program is a selective admission training program and therefore has its own admittance procedure besides the institution application. Pupils are encouraged to apply early. There are 2 due dates to be aware of in the admission procedure. A college application must be finished at the end of January of the preferred admission year. Pupils completing college applications as of February 1st will be qualified for next year’s admission.

Upon successful graduation from the training program, pupils meet the requirements to take the NCLEX-RN. The ADN training program is 2 years.

About The School

Vance–Granville Community College is a community college in North Carolina, the United States serving Vance, Franklin, Granville, and Warren regions. It was founded in the year 1969 by the North Carolina General Assembly as Vance County Technical Institute.

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

  • Apply to VGCC. Designate Associate Degree Nursing as the desired program of study.
  • Meet with a Student Learning and Success Center Academic and Career Coach to complete a PROGRAM APPLICATION. The following items are required as part of the PROGRAM APPLICATION:
  • Completion of a state-approved NA I course. The North Carolina Certified NAI training program must include theory, lab and clinical components. A current listing of state-approved training programs may be  accessed  at  ncdhhs.gov/dhsr/hcpr/pdf/trainingprograms.pdf. A  Waiver Request Form may be completed if the student has not completed a state-approved NAI course.
  • Current listing on the North Carolina Certified Nursing Assistant I (CNA) Registry with no substantiated findings of resident abuse, resident neglect or misappropriation of resident property in a Nursing Facility. A Waiver Request Form may be completed if the student has an equivalent certification or a minimum number of hours of experience.
  • Six months full time (or equivalent of ≥ 640 hours part time) employment in an acute care, long-term care, or equivalent setting as a CNA I or  waiver requested  The  student  must complete a WORK EXPERIENCE VERIFICATION FORM as posted on the ADN website. If the student is finishing a CNA I state-approved course by the PROGRAM APPLICATION deadline and therefore does not have enough time to obtain six months of working experience, a  letter of recommendation  may be provided by the CNA I instructor(also completed on the WORK EXPERIENCE VERIFICATION FORM).
  • A program-specific GPA of 2.5 or higher if the student has completed general education courses for the program. A grade of “C” or better is required.
  • Completion of the ATI TEAS assessment with a minimum score of 58.7% (Adjusted Individual Total Score). The ATI TEAS assessment may be taken at VGCC or official scores from other schools will be  The ATI TEAS  assessment must be taken within 5 years of the  PROGRAM APPLICATION deadline and only two attempts on the ATI TEAS are permitted per program

application.
