Nursing program

  • The University of Texas Medical Branch Bachelor of Science in Nursing Traditional training program readies students to become experienced registered nurses to give a patient-centered care in various health care settings.
  • The training program admits students in the fall, summer, and also spring each year. Class size is limited and also admission is highly competitive. The Traditional training program is completed in 4 consecutive semesters (16-months).

Following are the minimum requirements for BSN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

  1. The Nurse Centralized Application Service (NCAS) is the application utilized by UTMB. An application, the application fee, and official transcripts must be received at NCAS by the deadline listed for each admission cycle.
  2. All applicants for the Traditional BSN program are required to take the TEAS exam.

Prerequisites

All prerequisite courses must be completed before a student may enter the program. Therefore, a student should plan his/her application for the semester when they will have their prerequisites completed. A minimum of 40 of the 60 hours of prerequisites must be completed in order to apply for admission to the program.

  1. Overall GPA of 2.75. Historically, a competitive overall GPA has been 3.00 and a science GPA of 2.75. A grade of “C” or better is required in all prerequisite courses.
  2. To apply, at least two of the life and physical science prerequisites need to be completed at the time of the application submission.
  3. CLEP courses are accepted if they are approved by the transfer college and are indicated on the school’s transcript.

  • Chemistry (must include lab) 3-4
  • Elective Science (natural science such as Pathophysiology, Chemistry, and Biology) 3

  • Lifespan Growth & Development (must cover infancy through adult) 3
  • Statistics (Math, Psych or Business) 3
  • S. History I 3
  • S. History II 3
  • S. Government 3
  • Texas Government 3
  • English I – Composition I 3
  • English II – Composition II or Technical Writing 3
  • Performing Arts 3
  • Humanities 3
  • Free Electives 2-6
