Nursing program

  • The undergraduate nursing training program at USI is designed to prepare the professional nurse as a generalist to plan, implement, and also examine health care for individuals, families, and also groups in institutional and also community settings.
  • Completion of the undergraduate training program provides the basis for professional practice and also graduate study in Pupils completing and also fulfilling the requirements for graduation from the nursing training program will be qualified to sit for the registered nurse licensure examination.
  • Besides classroom instruction and also simulated learning activities, clinical learning happens in local hospitals, nursing homes, home health agencies, clinics, and a variety of other organizations. Pupils gain experience with patients in medical, emergency room, pediatric, surgical, psychiatric, maternity, gerontology, oncology, operating room, critical care, post-anesthesia, and also community settings. Clinical practice readies pupils for employment in these areas following graduation. The nursing training program is certified by the Indiana State Board of Nursing and also by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

  • The University of Southern Indiana (abbreviated as USI) is a public institution situated just outside Evansville in Vanderburgh Region, Indiana, United States of America. Established in the year 1965, USI enrolls 10,929 dual credit, undergraduate, graduate and also doctoral students in over 80 majors.
  • USI offers programs via the College of Liberal Arts, Romain College of Business, College of Nursing and Health Professions along with the Pott College of Science, Engineering, and Education. The University of Southern Indiana is an associate of the American Association. of State Colleges and Universities.

Following are the minimum requirements for BSN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:
An admission into the nursing program requires a nursing application process separate from the admission application to the university. Admission to the nursing program is competitive and limited by the availability of instructional resources and clinical learning sites. The number of students admitted to the nursing program each year is dependent upon learning resources.

There are three methods of admission to the program: Direct Admission, Conditional Direct Admission and Standard Admission.

Direct Admission

Direct admission applies only to students who are first-time degree seeking students and who are applying within the first calendar year of high school graduation.  Application for direct admission must be received by July 1.  For example, if you graduated from high school May or June 2016, you have until July 1, 2017 to apply for direct admission with nursing classes beginning spring semester 2018.  If you graduate from high school May or June 2017, you have until July 1, 2018 to apply for direct admission with nursing classes beginning spring semester 2019.

To qualify for direct admission, students must have both:

  • a senior year (fall or spring) cumulative high school GPA of 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale;
  • a minimum ACT of 26 or a SAT after March 2016 with a combined score of 1260 (reading and math, with minimum 580 in each area).

Conditional Direct Admission

Conditional direct admission applies only to students who are first-time degree seeking students and who are applying within the first calendar year of high school graduation.  Application for conditional direct admission must be received by July 1.  For example, if you graduated from high school May or June 2016, you have until July 1, 2017 to apply for conditional direct admission with nursing classes beginning spring semester 2018.  If you graduate from high school May or June 2017, you have until July 1, 2018 to apply for conditional direct admission with nursing classes beginning spring semester 2019.

To qualify for conditional direct admission students must have:

  • a senior year (fall or spring) cumulative high school GPA of 3.4 – 3.49 on a 4.0 scale and minimum ACT of 26 or a SAT after March 2016 with a combined score of 1260 (evidence-based reading and math, with minimum 580 in each area).

OR

  • a senior year (fall or spring) cumulative high school GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale and minimum ACT of 25 or a SAT after March 2016 with a combined score of 1220 (evidence-based reading and math, with minimum 560 in each area).

Standard Admission to the undergraduate nursing program may occur after completion of 31 hours of required university courses.  The deadline to apply to the nursing program is AUGUST 1 every fall after completion of the first 31 credit hours in the nursing curriculum.
