Nursing program

  • Graduates of the UConn School of Nursing undergraduate training program are liberally educated with a solid background in the humanities and also sciences. Pupils spend their very first four semesters acquiring these building blocks of knowledge. Upon admittance, students are designated a faculty advisor who helps them in planning their course of study.
  • The School of Nursing is associated with roughly 60 to 70 healthcare agencies within a 50-mile radius of the Storrs campus. They include hospitals such as the UConn Health Center, schools, housing for the elderly, extended care facilities, day care centers, community health agencies, ambulatory centers, and clinics.

About the school

  • The University of Connecticut (shortened as UConn) was established in the year 1881 and is a National Sea Grant, public land grant, and National Space Grant research university in Storrs, Connecticut, United States of America.
  • The University of Connecticut was established in the year 1881 as the Storrs Agricultural School. It was called after Charles and Augustus Storrs, brothers who donated the land for the institution as well as first financing.

Total estimated cost of attendance is approximate $23,000

Following are the minimum requirements for BSN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

  • Admission to the University
  • In addition to the general University requirements, School of Nursing applicants must have completed at least 15 secondary school units in college preparatory work.

Included must be:

  • English (4years
  • Algebra (2years)
  • Chemistry with a laboratory (1year)
  • Physics course (high school or college)
  • History (1year)
  • Additional – History or a Social Science (1year)
  • Single Foreign Language (2 years)- (Three years of the same Foreign Language is strongly recommended. Students with two years in the same Foreign Language will be required to complete one year of intermediate study in the language at the University, in effect, either extending the program an additional year or utilizing summer school).
  • Freshman, transfer, and petition students must have completed a high school (or college) course in chemistry, physics, and algebra for admission consideration.
  • Change of School petitions are due by February 1st for fall acceptance consideration. Decisions will be based on several criteria including the applicant’s academic record, courses taken and space availability. School Change applicants are expected to have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3 as well as a math/science GPA that is equal or higher than a 3.0 in two or more math/science prerequisite courses and physics in high school or college to be competitive in the petition or transfer process.
  • The following required science courses must be completed prior to admission with B or better grades in each: Human Anatomy and Physiology (PNB 2264 and 2265 or equivalent), Chemistry (CHEM 1122 or equivalent), Biology (BIOL 1107 or equivalent), Genetics (MCB 2400 or equivalent and must be taken within five years of enrollment in the program), Microbiology (MCB 2610) or equivalent). An undergraduate statistics course and a formal undergraduate research methods course must be completed with grades of C or better.
