- The Capstone College of Nursing at The University of Alabama offers the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Students are admitted to the Capstone College of Nursing when they meet The University of Alabama admission requirements and declare nursing as their major.
FRESHMEN
- Complete the University of Alabama application for admission. If you are not applying online, submit your print application with a check or money order for $40 made payable to The University of Alabama. The application fee is nonrefundable. Return your print application to The University of Alabama, Office of Undergraduate Admissions, Box 870132, Tuscaloosa, AL 35487-0132.
- If you would like to be considered for scholarships, complete the University of Alabama application for scholarships at mybama.ua.edu by December 15.
- Have your ACT or SAT score(s) sent to us. Our ACT code is 0052 and our SAT code is 1830.
- Have your most recent official high-school transcript sent to The University of Alabama, Office of Undergraduate Admissions, Box 870132, Tuscaloosa, AL 35487-0132.
- Complete all of the preceding steps by February 1 for priority admissions consideration for fall semester.
TRANSFER
- Complete the University of Alabama application for admission.
- Complete the University of Alabama application for scholarships at mybama.ua.edu by March 1 if you would like to be considered for scholarships.
- If you will have earned fewer than 24 semester hours (36 quarter hours) at the time of your application to the University, have your high-school transcript and ACT or SAT score(s) sent to The University of Alabama.
- During your final term of work at your present college, have each collegiate institution you have attended forward one official transcript to The University of Alabama. When you have been admitted, those transcripts will be evaluated by your academic division to determine how many credits can be applied to UA degree requirements. You will receive a copy of this evaluation.
- Complete all of the preceding steps by March 1 for priority admissions consideration for the summer/fall semester or December 1 for priority admissions consideration for the spring semester.
Promotion to the upper division (nursing courses) occurs after the sophomore year and is competitive. Students applying for promotion must meet all minimum requirements to be considered. These requirements are:
- A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on required lower division classes.
- A minimum cumulative grade point average of a 2.75 on all required science classes.
- Completion of or current enrollment in all lower division courses at application deadline.
- Students who complete at least 32 credit hours of the required lower division coursework in residence at UA will be given preference.
TRANSFER FOR BSN
The Capstone College of Nursing welcomes transfer students to our B.S.N. program. Promotion to the upper division (clinical nursing core) is a competitive process. Promotion decisions are based upon the following:
- Admission to the University of Alabama with Nursing listed as the primary major.
- A minimum cumulative grade point average of a 3.0 on all required lower division courses.
- A minimum cumulative grade point average of a 2.75 on all required science courses.
- Minimum grade of 3.0 in all nursing courses completed at the upper division.
- A letter of good standing from all BSN nursing programs. The statement must reflect that the student is eligible to return to that program.
- Completion of or enrollment in all lower division classes at time of application to upper division.
- Applicants who complete at least one-half of the required lower-division coursework in residence at UA will be given preference.
Second Degree:
The Capstone College of Nursing welcomes students with a baccalaureate degree in another field to pursue a bachelor of science in nursing degree.
The lower division requirements are limited to those which provide a direct base for the upper division nursing courses. See the Program of Study. Once a student completes these lower division courses, s/he may apply to the upper division. Promotion is a competitive process. Decisions are based upon the following:
- Admission to the University of Alabama with Nursing listed as the primary major.
- A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on all lower division courses required for second degree students.
- A minimum cumulative grade point average of a 2.75 on all required science course
- Completion of or current enrollment in all lower division courses at application deadline.
- Applicants who complete at least one-half of the required lower-division coursework in residence at UA or those who have previously earned a degree from UA will be given preference for promotion.
