Nursing program

  • The University of Dubuque Nursing major is built around a 21st-century curriculum dedicated to meeting the demands of 21st-century health care. UD’s training program readies nurses with a baccalaureate degree and also concentrates on the development of core skills. Clinical experiences in specialty care are pointed out to fulfill the demands of employers, while rotations in rural health provide assistance to under-served populations in the tri-state region.

Following are the minimum requirements for BSN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

  1. At least sophomore standing (24 credits or more);
  2. Pre-nursing GPA of 3.00;
  3. Grade of C in each nursing pre-requisite course – no pre-requisite course may be repeated more than once (see list above);
  4. Science pre-requisites GPA of 3.00;
  5. Good health as demonstrated by Physical Assessment and Statement of Health;
  6. Proof of required immunizations;
  7. Successfully completed federal and state criminal background and dependent abuse background checks;
  8. Attained CPR for Health Professionals and First Aid certification;
  9. Achieved CNA certification and be listed on the Iowa Direct Care Worker Registry;
  10. Provided 2 references from former professors of natural and social sciences;
  11. Attained a score in the Proficient Category on the TEAS Note: it is at the discretion of the Nursing Faculty and the Department of Nursing to change the minimum composite score requirement for any future application periods; and
  12. Attained a TOEFL score of 550 on the paper-based test, or 79 on the internet test for applicants who are English language learners
