Nursing program

  • The University of Massachusetts Amherst (also referred to as UMass Amherst) is a public research and also land-grant school in Amherst, Massachusetts, United States of America, along with the flagship of the University of Massachusetts system.
  • The institution was established in 1863 under the provisions of the Federal Morrill Land-Grant Colleges Act to give instruction to Massachusetts people in the “agricultural, mechanical, and also military arts.” Appropriately, the institution was originally named the Massachusetts Agricultural College, generally known as “Mass Aggie” or “M.A.C.” In the year 1867, the school had yet to accept any students, had been through 2 Presidents, yet still had not finished any college structures. In that year, William S. Clark was appointed President of the College and also Professor of Botany.

Following are the minimum requirements for BSN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

  1. 5 GPA minimum (on a 4.0 scale)
  2. 1200 SAT scores (Critical Reading and Math only)
  3. Top 10% of class
  4. Science concentration in High School coursework

Prerequisites and Admission Criteria ABSN

  1. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a field other than nursing
  2. Applicants must have completed all prerequisite courses with a grade of C or better in each course and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher by the application deadline of January 15. Note that prerequisites may be completed at any accredited institution, including community colleges or online courses and labs.
  • Human Nutrition (3 credits) *
  • Medical Microbiology with Lab, or General Microbiology with Lab (4 credits)*
  • Anatomy and Physiology I with lab (4 credits) *
  • Anatomy and Physiology II with lab (4 credits) *
  • Statistics (3 credits)
  • Human Growth and Development throughout the Lifespan (must cover birth through death; 3 credits) **

* These courses may be fulfilled through NLN Achievement Tests  (see Nursing Achievement Tests download below)

** This course may be fulfilled through CLEP.

  1. Non-native speakers of English: an internet-based TOEFL (iBT) score of 80 or higher, a computer-based TOEFL score of 213 or higher, or an IELTS score of 6.5 or higher. Students who earned a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. college/university may qualify for a TOEFL waiver.
