Nursing program

About the school

  • The University of Indianapolis, shortened as UIndy, is an institution situated in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States Of America, which is associated with the United Methodist Church. Founded in 1902, the school offers associate’s, Bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees, and also has over 5,400 students. It was previously referred to as Indiana Central College and Indiana Central University.
  • The primary campus is situated on the south side of Indianapolis at 1400 East Hanna Avenue, just east of Shelby Street. UIndy also offers degree programs via affiliation in China and also Belize.

Following are the minimum requirements for BSN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

High school prerequisites

All applicants to the BSN program need to have completed at least two semesters of high school biology, two semesters of high school chemistry, eight semesters of high school English, six semesters of math (such as algebra I and II, geometry, and/or calculus), and a modern language class such as Spanish, French or German.

Application for clinical courses

Once you have been accepted to UIndy, you will be assigned to a nursing faculty advisor who will help you plan the courses you’ll need to take your freshman year. Then, you must apply mid-February to mid-April of your freshman year to be admitted to fall clinical courses and mid-July to mid-August for winter clinicals.

Consideration for admission to the clinical phase is based on the following criteria:

  • Completion of all freshman year courses, with a cumulative GPA of 2.82 or higher
  • A minimum grade of C in all science and math prerequisites
  • Completion of the Kaplan Admission Test (this must be done each time an application is submitted)

Transfer student application for clinical courses

Once you have been accepted to UIndy, your college transcript will need to be assessed to determine if you have completed all nursing prerequisites. You will not be able to apply for nursing clinicals until all nursing prerequisites are complete. To determine if all prerequisites have been met, you will need to contact Karen Childers at 317-788-3244 or by email at [email protected] Once all nursing prerequisites are complete, you must apply mid-February to mid-April to be considered for fall clinical admission, or mid-July to mid-August for winter clinical admission.

Consideration for admission to the clinical phase requires a cumulative GPA of 2.82 or higher in all nursing prerequisite courses, as well as completion of the criteria listed above for traditional applicants.
