Nursing program

• The Monticello School of Nursing at The University of Arkansas is pursuing pre-accreditation candidacy status from the NLN CNEA.
• The School of Nursing at UAM was developed to fulfill the need for registered nurses in Southeast Arkansas.
• All programs available in the School of Nursing at UAM are endorsed by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing. Upon graduation, the pupil is competent to sit and take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) to become a registered nurse (RN).
• Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and also Licensed Psychiatric Technical Nurses may be eligible for advanced placement within the Bachelor of Science in Nursing clinical course sequence. Verification of an existing valid, unrestricted Arkansas Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse or Licensed Psychiatric Technical Nurse license is required.

• The University of Arkansas- Monticello (UAM) is a four-year liberal arts institution situated in Monticello, Arkansas, the United States of America with Colleges of Technology located in Crossett and also McGehee, Arkansas, USA.

Following are the minimum requirements for BSN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

• Completed application for admission (no processing fee)
• Complete high school transcript, transcripts from all colleges attended
• Entrance Exam Scores (ACT, SAT, or ACCUPLACER)
• Immunization records against measles, mumps, and rubella (two doses)

International Admission Requirements:

• Completed application for admission and submit $35 international fee
• College entrance exam scores (ACT or SAT)
• Certified translated copies of all academic records
• TOEFL score if native language is other than English
• Certified statement from a financial institution
• Immunization records against measles, mumps, and rubella (two doses)
• TB test if born outside the United States
• Additional information provided as application is processed

RNs with an Associate Degree or Diploma may apply for advanced placement in the BSN program. The RN will receive credit for 33 semester hours for NURS 311V Concepts in Nursing Care I, NURS 332V Concepts in Nursing Care II, and NURS 444V Concepts in Nursing Care III. The 33 hours of credit will be held in escrow. The student will receive credit for these courses upon successful completion of the program.

Additionally, applicants who have graduated from nursing school more than 24 months previously may be required to take a 1 credit hour Basic Skills Check-Off course to verify clinical skills. RNs complete the same general education and support courses as students in the prelicensure BSN program but have a specified program for completing theory and clinical nursing course requirements. A letter of recommendation from a current or most recent RN supervisor in a nursing position is required of all licensed applicants.

LPNs/LPTNs may apply for advanced placement in the BSN program. LPNs/LPTNs may receive credit for 11 semester hours for NURS 311V Concepts in Nursing Care I if they graduated from LPN/LPTN school within 24 months. After 24 months, a validation examination must be passed with a score of 74 or better to obtain advanced placement credit for NURS 311V. The syllabus for NURS 311V may be obtained prior to the validation exam for purposes of studying independently for the examination. The validation examination may be taken only once. The application process for admission into UAM and the nursing program must be completed before validation examinations may be taken.

LPN/LPTNs are required to submit a letter of recommendation from their nursing school and from the most recent or present nursing position RN supervisor. Applicants seeking admission to the nursing program through advanced placement should meet with the School of Nursing dean. All nursing faculty are included in the evaluation of the advanced placement student and make recommendations regarding advanced placement to the dean.
