Nursing Program

The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) training program is a 60 -credit hour syllabus that leads to an Associate of Applied Science degree (AAS).

Graduates are qualified to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) as outlined by the Texas Board of Nursing. Nursing is a unique, dynamic profession dedicated to the holistic care of the patients via health promotion and the diagnosis and also treatment of human response to actual or perhaps potential health issues.

Nurses make use of critical thinking skills to provide nursing care across the lifespan with emphasis on meeting the demands of patients who needs assistance to maintain or even restore optimum health. The training program is endorsed by Texas Board of Nursing

About The School

Tyler Junior College is a two (2) year community college in Tyler, Texas, United States.

The school operated as part of the Tyler public school system from its creation in the year 1926 until in the year 1945, when voters supported the establishment of an independent Tyler Junior College District. The junior college district now consists of the Tyler, Chapel Hill, Van, Grand Saline, Lindale, and Winona school districts.

Total estimated program cost is USD $11,120

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

  • All applicants must take the ATI Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) exam
  • Have applied to and been accepted as a TJC student
  • Be TSI complete or exempt
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have a required grade point average (RGPA) of 2.5 or above​
  • RGPA is calculated using only degree required courses (this includes all prerequisite courses)
  • When calculating RGPA your most recent course grade will be used.
  • All grades, A, B, C, D and F, are considered when calculating RGPA.
  • Meet all prerequisite course requirements

PSYC 2314 Life Span Growth and Development

ENGL 1301 Composition I

  • Have not had an unsuccessful attempt in a traditional BSN or ADN program
  • Have a letter of ‘good standing’ from any nursing or health science program that was not completed​
  • ‘Good standing’ is defined as having the ability to re-apply, re-enter, or continue in a previously enrolled nursing or health science program. Must provide proof that no academic, clinical and professional disciplinary actions were incurred during previous enrollment in any nursing or health science program.

In order to apply to the LVN-ADN track you must:

  • Have applied to and been accepted as a TJC student
  • Be TSI complete or exempt
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have a required grade point average (RGPA) of 2.5 or above
  • RGPA is calculated using only degree required courses (this includes all prerequisite courses)
  • When calculating RGPA your most recent course grade will be used.
  • All grades, A, B, C, D and F, are considered when calculating RGPA.
  • Meet all prerequisite course requirements

  • Have not had an unsuccessful attempt in a traditional BSN or ADN program
  • Have a letter of ‘good standing’ from any nursing or health science program that was not completed
  • ‘Good standing’ is defined as having the ability to re-apply, re-enter, or continue in a previously enrolled nursing or health science program. Must provide proof that no academic, clinical and professional disciplinary actions were incurred during previous enrollment in any nursing or health science program.
  • Have and maintain a current LVN license
  • You may apply if you are currently enrolled in your last semester of an LVN program however, proof of licensure must be presented 60 days after graduation in order to remain eligible for admission.
