Nursing program

  • The Tuskegee University Division of Nursing offers the chance to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN). After completion of degree specifications, graduates will be qualified to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) to practice. A registered nurse (RN) is personally and also professionally accountable and responsible for the quality and amount of nursing care given to customers as laid out by the American Nurses’ Association and also Nurse Practice Acts.
  • The generic nursing program is four (4) years, and also includes two (2) summer semesters.
  • Tuskegee Institute Training School of Nurses was signed up the State Board of Nursing in Alabama in September in the year 1892 under the auspices of the John Andrew Memorial Hospital to give training to young people of color who desired to learn the art of caring for the sick.

  • Tuskegee University is a non-public, historically black university situated in Tuskegee, Alabama, United States of America. Booker T. Washington founded it.
  • The institution was established on July 4, in the year 1881, as the Tuskegee Normal School for Colored Lecturers.
  • Tuskegee University offers forty bachelor’s degree programs, seventeen master’s degree programs, a 5-year certified professional degree training program in architecture, four doctoral degree programs, along with the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.

Following are the minimum requirements for BSN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

Pre-Professional Admission  Requirements. Scholastic  and  other  criteria  for  admission  to  the Department of Nursing are as follows:

  • Meet the general requirements for admission to the University
  • Graduate from high school with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.00 or above on a 4.00 scale.
  • Score 1000 or above on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or 21 or above on the American College Test (ACT).
  • Complete, in high school, one (1) unit of biology and one (1) unit of Chemistry. A grade of C or above must be earned in each of these courses.
  • Complete two (2) units of high school mathematics (one of the completed unit must include algebra). A grade of C or above must be earned in each course.

Admission Requirements for Professional Phase. Admission  to  the  University and to the pre-professional  phase  of  nursing  does  not  guarantee  admission to the professional phase of the nursing curriculum. Students must apply for admission to the professional phase during their sophomore year and meet  all pre-nursing requirements to be eligible for admission. Students  requiring  admission  to the professional phase of courses leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Nursing must:

  • Complete an application for the professional phase of nursing.The application form can be downloaded from: tuskegee.edu/academics/colleges/cvmnah/school_of_nursing_allied_health.aspx
  • Satisfactorily complete all pre-nursing prerequisite course requirements.
  • Have earned CGPA of 3.00 or better on a 4.00 scale.
  • Have earned a “C” grade or better in each pre-nursing course.
  • Achieve a score of 80% or above on the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS).
  • Note: Students are required to submit their TEAS scored to the Academic Affairs Committee within the year  of  anticipated    The  Test  of  Essential  Academic Skills  is  distributed       by  Assessment Technologies  Institute,  Inc.  (ATI).  A study  guide  and  information  about  locations  of  examination  sites may be obtained from www.atitesting.com .
  • Satisfactorily complete the Tuskegee University English Proficiency Examination requirement.
  • Satisfactorily complete the Tuskegee Orientation requirements.
  • The Academic Affairs Committee (AAC) reserves the right to admit students on a conditional, probationary status in the event certain requirements are  not  met (CGPA, TEAS). Students who do not meet the  above admission requirements will be evaluated on an individual  basis by  the AAC. Only students  who  have  met  all  pre-requisite course requirements will be considered for admission into the professional phase.
