Nursing Program
The ADN Training program offers a generic two-year, five-semester training program and an LVN to Registered Nurse Advanced Placement, which comprises of 1 year with two semesters.
The nursing training program aims to deliver top quality curriculum with revolutionary requirement created by the state and national accreditation organizations. The ADN Training program provides the pupils with the vital educational equipment to flourish in their academic career.
The Kaplan nursing learning equipment delivers extensive study material such as practice examinations and NCLEX-RN review preparation strategies. The institution also offers LVN-Registered Nurse Advanced Placement.
About The School
Texas Southmost College was originally established in 1926 as The Junior College of the Lower Rio Grande Valley.
Initially established as an extension of the local independent school district in Brownsville, Texas, it’s very first classes were conducted in the fall of 1926 in the local high school structure.
While initially created as an academic training program institution, after World War II and all through the 1950s, the college started to add and also increase vocational and occupational training program offerings.

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:
A class of students will be admitted each fall semester based on completion of admission criteria. The number of students admitted each semester may vary due to Board of Nursing (BON) requirements of student-to-instructor ratios and available applicant pool. Admission is competitive and is based on the student’s overall GPA, ACT and Kaplan test scores. Please note recommendations below (ACT, Kaplan scores and GPA).
To be considered for admission the student must:
- Have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 or above. The recommended GPA is 3.0 or above;
- Have a minimum of “C” or above is required for all general education coursework;
- Must obtain acceptable scores on the ACT test, minimum score of 18 or above in Reading, English, Science and Composite. The recommended score is 22 or above;
- Obtain acceptable scores on the Kaplan Entrance Exam of 79% on Math, 77% on Reading, 57% on Science, 62% on Writing and 69% on Overall Score or above.
- Due to the competitiveness of the program the higher all of the above GPA and test scores are the better your chance of admission;
- Be admitted to Texas Southmost College;
- Complete the Admission Interview process.
- Pass the criminal background check.
- Be cleared by the Texas Board of Nursing prior to starting classes.
LVN-RN Advanced Placement Application
- Have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 or above. The recommended GPA is 3.0 or above;
- A minimum of “C” or above is required for all prerequisite coursework;
- Must obtain acceptable scores on the ACT test, minimum score of 18 or above in Reading, English, Science and The recommended score is 22 or above;
- Obtain acceptable scores on the Kaplan Entrance Exam of 79% on Math, 77% on Reading, 57% on Science, 62% on Writing and 69% on Overall Score
- Due to the competitiveness of the program the higher all of the above GPA and test scores are the better your chance of admission;
- Complete all prerequisite general education courses prior to applying; LVN-RN are required to submit an unofficial transcript with all prerequisite coursework;
- Be admitted to Texas Southmost College.
- Pass the criminal background check.
- Be cleared by the Texas Board of Nursing prior to starting classes
