Nursing Program

Pupils who successfully complete the Nursing training program earn an Associate in Science degree. SUNY Ulster’s nursing training program is certified by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

The training program can be fulfilled in 2 academic years or even prolonged and pursued on a part-time schedule. Nursing classes, nevertheless, has to be taken progressively, and it is advisable that they be taken without interruption. Local hospitals and health organizations are used as an extension of the College laboratory, providing on-site experience in a variety of medical functions.

SUNY Ulster’s Nursing training program can never be completed during the night time. Upon satisfactory completion of the training program, graduates meet the requirements to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurse licensure (NCLEX-RN). This opens up local and also national employment possibilities for graduates in a number of settings with varied populations.

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

STEP 1 – Standard Admissions and Enrollment Process for the Nursing Program

1. Submission of a completed Admissions application to the College. Students can apply online and access detailed information on the College’s admission process at www.sunyulster.edu/admissions/start_here
2. Submission of high school transcripts or equivalency in addition to all official college transcripts from schools attended

• Satisfactory placement in the College’s Entering Student Assessment Test

1. Completion of the Online Orientation
2. Register and enroll in required prerequisites for the Nursing Program

STEP 2– Enrollment in the Nursing Clinical Course (NUR 152)

Enrollment in Nursing Courses is a competitive process comprised of the TEAS test results, educational records, completion of a Nursing program application, and a Nursing Committee review. All requirements for enrollment for clinical courses must be completed on or before February 15.

15. All students who intend to enter the Nursing clinical courses are required to submit a separate Nursing program application to the Nursing Department on or before February 15.
16. Completion of the ATI TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) is required by February 15. The SUNY Ulster Learning Center will be administering the TEAS test and pre-registration is required. The testing fee is due at the time of registration. Go to the ATI website at www.atitesting.com for additional information on the examination fee and the registration process. The examination dates will be posted on our website at www.sunyulster.edu/nursing.

• The exam can be taken once a year for each nursing applicant with a maximum of two attempts within the last five years. Students must score at the proficient level or higher to be considered for the program.

2. Students must have and maintain an overall minimum of 2.5 GPA in all required courses in order to be considered for entry into the Nursing Program. All required science courses must have been completed within the last 5 years with a minimum grade of 2.0 or higher.
3. A maximum of two attempts to achieve a “C” or better in BIO 107 within the last five years is allowed.
4. An applicant who has earned less than a ‘C’ grade in two or more Nursing courses from any college cannot be considered for the program.

• Students selected for the program will be required to submit a deposit and complete an Intent to Enroll Form to hold their seat.
