Nursing Program

The nursing training program at SUNY Orange has the honor of being the very first Associate Degree Nursing Training program in the nation. This honor has earned them the value of the community they serve.

The faculty at SUNY Orange is extremely experienced with varied experiences and areas of proficiency. The primary concentration is providing good quality care in a caring environment with an outstanding curriculum which will build you to enter the workforce as a Registered Nurse.

SUNY Orange, or Orange County Community College, is a two (2) year institution in the State University of New York system, United States, offering roughly forty associate degrees and also certificate programs.

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

For those currently enrolled in college, readmitted students and transfer students:

1. High School diploma or GED.
2. Eligible to take or have completed Freshman English I (ENG 101) or equivalent.
3. Eligible to take Intermediate Algebra (MAT 102) or equivalent, or have completed Elementary Algebra (MAT 101) with a 2.0 or higher.
4. Completed High School AP Biology (score of 3, 4, or 5); Intro to Biology (BIO 110); General Bio (BIO 101- prior to Spring 2008); or Anatomy & Physiology I (BIO 111), with a grade of 2.0 or better (within 5 years of applying).
5. Successful completion of High School Regents Chemistry, or its equivalent with a grade of 75 or higher; or High School AP Chemistry (score 3,4,or 5); or Elements of Chemistry & Physics (CHM 120) or a college Chemistry course (with lab) with a grade of 2.0 or higher; or a passing grade on the Chemistry I CLEP examination within 10 years.
6. GPA: students must attain a minimum GPA of 2.75.
7. Number of acceptable credits completed towards the degree.
8. Admissions to this program is selective. Students must apply for acceptance into this program through the Admissions Office. If the student is a New, Transfer or Re-admit to the college, this application will also be treated as the general application for admission. Consideration for admission is based on the completion of all mandatory academic and departmental eligibility requirements, highest combination of GPA, TEAS score and credits completed towards the degree, Orange County residency, and seat availability.
9. All requirements must be completed and a program application form must be submitted to the Admissions Office before February 1 for the fall semester at the Middletown Campus and October 1 for the spring semester at the Newburgh Campus.
10. Department Specific Requirements: Completion of an online pre-admission orientation. At this orientation, students will receive and sign off on information pertaining to health forms, program standards, mandatory CPR certification, and criminal record & drug screening policies. All students must submit to a criminal background check and urine drug screening.
11. Applicants of the Nursing program will be required to take the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) and receive a minimum score of BASIC. Visit the Testing Center for more information.
12. An additional diagnostic Arithmetic Assessment Test will be administered during the first week of classes.
13. A minimum grade of C is required in all laboratory science courses for progression in the program.
14. Program completion time for students is to be no longer than three years once a student enrolls in the first nursing course.
15. There is a part-time evening program (11.5 credits per semester) for which students are not eligible for T.A.P.
16. It is recommended that all required general education courses be completed before registering for the core Nursing courses in the evening program.

18. Before readmission or advanced placement admission, students are required to complete a special non-credit course.
19. Readmitted and advanced placement students to nursing courses must be reviewed individually.
