Nursing program

  • The St. Ambrose University Nursing Division offers an undergraduate training program of study for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • The training program is exceptional in that pupils complete more theory before their patient care experiences which stretch the time required to learn necessary nursing skills.
  • An unlicensed first year and also transfer students are recognized as elementary students as opposed to registered nurse pupils who are licensed without a BS degree.
  • The BS degree in nursing from St. Ambrose University is certified by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and endorsed by the Iowa Board of Nursing.

  • Ambrose University is a non-public, coeducational, liberal arts school associated with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Davenport. It is situated in a residential region of Davenport, Iowa, United States of America.
  • Ambrose was established as a seminary and also a school of commerce for young men in the year 1882, referred to as St. Ambrose Academy. It owes its starting to the first bishop of Davenport, The Most Reverend John McMullen, who established it under the auspices of the Diocese of Davenport. The affiliation remains robust at present.

Following are the minimum requirements for BSN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

In preparation for obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) at St. Ambrose University, students must first complete the following courses:

  1. Complete the following pre-requisite courses with a C grade or higher prior to admission to the Nursing Program.
  • BIOL 101 Principles of Biology (or higher level Biology), 4 credits
  • BIOL 211 Introductory Microbiology, 4 credits
  • BIOL 230 Human Anatomy and Physiology, 4 credits
  • BIOL 232 Advanced Human Anatomy and Physiology, 4 credits
  • CHEM 103 Principles of Chemistry (or higher level Chemistry), 4 credits
  • STAT 213 Applied Statistical Reasoning for the Sciences, 3 credits
  • PSYC 105 Introductory Psychology, 3 credits
  • PSYC 212 Life-Span Developmental Psychology, 3 credits
  • SOC 101 Introductory to Sociology, 3 credits
  1. Complete all except 7 or fewer general education requirement credits.
  2. Achieve a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher.
  3. In addition to the above courses, the following are required prior to being fully accepted into and starting the Nursing Program (Nursing Admissions Requirements):
  • CNA Certification must be completed before beginning nursing courses and includes a copy of active status on state registry.
  • CPR Certification must be American Heart Association BLS Provider (formerly known as Healthcare provider)
