Nursing Program

St. Elizabeth College of Nursing is a two (2) year non-public, non-profit college established in 1904. They offer an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) in Nursing with course plans built to satisfy your educational needs.

With more than 3600 graduates, their programs provide the ideal preparation to work in today’s health-care surroundings, a one to one connection with faculty, experience with top-notch technology along with the most substantial hands-on clinical experience accessible in a nursing training program today.

About The School

St. Elizabeth College of Nursing (SECON) was founded in the year 1904 as a single objective three (3) year diploma training program in nursing. It was certified by the New York State Education Department as St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing and also graduated its very first class of 7 in the year 1907.

The nursing training program was a normal outgrowth of the tradition and objective of St. Elizabeth Medical Center (SEMC) which is to take care of the sick and also vulnerable. The College maintains a solid link with its parent institution, St. Elizabeth Medical Center, along with other clinical organizations to provide excellent clinical experiences for pupils in all clinical places.

Total estimated program cost is USD $32,000

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

  1. Algebra: All candidates must have successfully completed a pre-requisite math (algebra) course within the prior three (3) years.  The Admissions Committee reserves the right to waive the prerequisite course upon review of the applicant’s file.
  2. Chemistry & Biology Courses: On a case-by-case basis, the Admissions Committee may require that a candidate successfully complete a Biology and/or Chemistry course prior to August 1st of the enrollment year.

High School Graduate

  • Academic average: 80-85%
  • SAT: 1000 (greater than or equal to 500 in Verbal and Math) or ACT composite of 22 or higher
  • Evidence of successful completion: Algebra, English, Biology and Chemistry
  • Two professional references (e.g. guidance counselors, teachers)

College Transfer

  • Twenty-four (24) college credits or greater: cumulative GPA of 2.75 required
  • Less than twenty-four (24) college credits earned and less than 3 years since High School graduation, the candidate will be evaluated based on his/her high school and college academic record
  • If it has been greater than 3 years since High School graduation, the College may administer the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) exam in the subject areas of Reading, Math, Science and English. An acceptable score is classified as: Exemplary, Advanced, or Proficient.
  • Two professional references (e.g. employer, teacher, or anyone who can provide objective information)

International Students

International Students who have English as a second language will be required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) prior to review of the application. TOEFL total scores of 500 for the paper-based test (PBT) or a total score of 79 for the internet-based test (iBT) are preferred for the student to start the nursing sequence of courses. The applicant’s profile of section scores on the iBTwill be considered in addition to the total score since each combination total score represents a different profile of abilities across the four sections of reading, listening, speaking, and writing. Applicants who score less than the acceptable score can anticipate that they may be required to begin their studies with English as a Second Language (ESL) coursework as their main focus to prepare them for additional study in nursing.
