Southern State Community College ADN-RN Nursing Program Prerequisites & Reviews

Nursing Program

The ADN training program in Southern State Community College is built to be completed in 5 semesters when taken on a regular basis. Continuation in the nursing training program demands a minimum grade of “B” in all NURS courses as well as a minimum grade of “C” in all further required courses including prerequisites.

The training program is certified by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, Inc. and also has complete authorization of the Ohio Board of Nursing. There is an option for LPN-ADN transition.

About The School

Southern State Community College is a community college centrally located in Hillsboro, Ohio, United States. The institution is split up into four campuses situated in Mount Orab, Hillsboro, Washington Court House, and also Wilmington. It was launched in the year 1975.

Total estimated program cost is USD $13,320

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

  • Accepted SSCC student
  • High school graduate or GED recipient
  • Completed nursing application and responsibility form
  • Prerequisite courses with a grade of C or higher (C-is not acceptable). Knowledge of prerequisite content is expected. If taken more than 5 years ago, it is strongly recommended that course be repeated.
  • CHEMISTRY (must meet at least one criteria)
  • High school chemistry
  • CHEM 1120, Introduction to Chemistry
  • CHEM 120 and 122
  • Higher level college chemistry course
  • BIOLOGY (must meet at least one criteria)
  • High school biology
  • BIOL 1104, Human Biology I
  • BIOL 104 and 114, Human Biology I/Lab
  • Higher level college biology course
  • ALGEBRA (must meet at least one criteria)
  • High school algebra
  • MATH 1116, Beginning Algebra
  • MATH 1117, Elementary Algebra
  • MATH 117, Elementary Algebra
  • Higher level college math course
  • TEAS exam with score of PROFICIENT or ADVANCED or EXEMPLARY within 24 months of application
  • Level of proficient or higher in each category is not required. However, for ranking purposes, points are awarded only for a score of proficient or higher in each sub-scale category.

LPN-ADN TRANSITION

  • Accepted SSCC student
  • High school graduate or GED recipient
  • Nursing transition application and responsibility form
  • Practical Nursing school graduate
  • Prerequisite courses with a grade of C or higher (C-is not acceptable). Knowledge of prerequisite content is expected. If taken more than 5 years ago, it is strongly recommended that course be repeated.
  • CHEMISTRY (must meet at least one criteria)
  • High school chemistry
  • CHEM 1120, Introduction to Chemistry
  • CHEM 120 and 122
  • Higher level college chemistry course

 

  • BIOL 2205, Anatomy & Physiology I (BIOL 1104 prerequisite may be required)
  • BIOL 2206, Anatomy & Physiology II
  • ENGL 1101, English Composition I
  • MATH 1135, Allied Health Mathematics
  • PSYC 1111, Life Span Human Development

 

  • 500 hours work experience as LPN within past 24 months
  • Unrestricted Ohio Nursing licensure with medication administration privileges
