South Texas College ADN-RN Nursing Program Prerequisites & Reviews

Nursing Program

The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Training program will prepare pupils with the fundamental competencies to become safe practitioners in the health-care field.

Upon satisfactory completion of the Associate of Applied Science major in Associate Degree Nursing, the graduate will be able to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). After successful completion of the examination, the person will be a registered nurse (RN), which enables them to work in hospitals, physicians’ offices, day-surgery centers, rehabilitation centers, home health-care agencies, among other areas.

The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Training program at South Texas College is endorsed with commendation by the Texas Board of Nursing (TBON).

South Texas College (STC) is a public community college in the Rio Grande Valley region of South Texas, and is certified by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to grant Bachelor of Applied Technology, Associate of Applied Science (AAS), Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees.

South Texas College has an enrollment of roughly 31,000 students and employees of 1,600 working across six campuses. The college is popular in higher education circles for its varied pupil body and also for operating one of the biggest dual enrollment/early college high school programs in the USA.

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

Prerequisites courses:

The following courses must be completed with a “B” or higher.

  • ENGL 1301 Composition orENGL1302 Rhetoric
  • BIOL 2401 Anatomy & Physiology I
  • BIOL 2402 Anatomy & Physiology II
  • RNSG 1209 Introduction to Nursing*
  • HESI A2 (Admission Assessment) Exam- The HESI A2 (Admission Assessment)Exam is an admission requirement for the South Texas College Associate Degree Nursing(ADN) Program. The HESI A2 (Admission Assessment) Exam consists of academic exams and a personality profile that identifies the applicant’s learning style. It should be taken within the last 2 years.
  • English Language Composite Score is 75% or higher
  • Science (Anatomy & Physiology) Score is75% or higher
  • Math Score is 75% or higher
  • Certificate of Completion for attending the Information Session and successfully completing the Information Session Assessment
  • In compliance with the Texas Board of Nursing (TBON) requirements, all

prospective students must submit a criminal background through the TBON.       Submit High School and/or college transcripts
