South Oregon Community College ADN-RN Nursing Program Prerequisites & Reviews.

Nursing Program

The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Nursing in Southwestern Oregon Community College is intended for pupils seeking a career as a Registered Nurse (RN). The training program grooms pupils to practice professional nursing in many different settings.

Upon successful completion of the six quarters training program, pupils will be awarded an Associate of Applied Science degree and are qualified to sit and take the national licensure examination (NCLEX) leading to a licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).

Southwestern Oregon Community College is a college in Coos Bay, Oregon, United States Of America. It is Oregon’s most ancient community college, established in 1961.

Total estimated program cost is USD $16,176

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

Required prerequisites

  • Anatomy and Physiology I- (BI 231)
  • Anatomy and Physiology II- (BI 232)
  • Anatomy and Physiology III- (BI 233)
  • Ethics- (PHL 102)
  • Chemistry- (CHEM 110)
  • Computer Competency- (CIS120)
  • English CompositionI- (WR 121)
  • English CompositionII- (WR 122)
  • Microbiology- (BI 234)
  • Life Span Development- (PSY 237)
  • Math Competency- (MTH 95 or higher)
  • Nutrition- (FN 225)
  • This is a restricted-entry program. Students are required to submit an application to the college and a separate application to the  nursing program.  A total  of  50 credits of specific prerequisites must be completed. All
  • prerequisites must  be  completed  with  a  grade  of  ‘C’ or better prior to beginning the nursing program.
  • Thirty (30) of  the  50  credits  must  be  completed  by  the  end  of  fall  term  preceding  admission  and  must  include  at  least one term of Anatomy and Physiology. Selection of applicants is based on a point system described in the application/information packet.
  • Acceptance to  the  program  allows  for  co-admission to  the  Oregon  Health & Science University  (OHSU) nursing    Students  are  eligible  to  complete a bachelor’s degree in nursing from OHSU either full time in three quarters or part-time.

 

LPN-AND TRANSITION

  • Completion of all program prerequisites with a letter grade of “C” or better and an average prerequisite GPA ≥3.0 by end of summer term in the year of application.
  • Credits taken pass/no pass (if accepted by the college as meeting requirements) may be considered only if the “pass” was equivalent to a “C” or better.
  • Submit official transcripts from all colleges or universities previously attended demonstrating a minimum of 3.0 cumulative GPA for all completed prerequisite/preparatory coursework.
  • Completion of all required forms, including the SWOCC College Admission Application.
  • Current unencumbered Oregon LPN license and ≥500 hours of LPN work experience.
  • Genetics may be completed after the application deadline but must be completed with a grade of C or higher by the end of fall term to progress in the application/selection process and be allowed to enroll in the nursing pharmacology and pathophysiology courses.
  • Completion of the Kaplan Admissions Test at the time scheduled (close to November 1) in the application materials.
