Nursing program

The Associate in Science Degree in Nursing trains students for the role of a professional nurse, which consist of providing culturally and safe and care in different settings. Students will advance and maintain progressive, healthy relationships with families, patients, and the community as they study to practice according to professional, ethical and legal standards.

Eligible licensed practical nurses accepted into the Nursing Program will be awarded 12 credits of advanced standing for graduation before taking their first nursing class. An eligible LPN in the SCC Nursing Program is one who has met the admission criteria.

Admitted LPN’s need to complete a 4-credit “Nursing Transitions” course (NURS1910). it is recommended for students hoping to complete the program on a part-time basis to take as many of the prerequisite liberal arts and science courses as possible before beginning the SCC Nursing program (during their “pre-nursing” time).

Accepted students are mandated to participate in a background study. Students that are awarded an Associate in Science Degree may transfer credits to a four-year institution to work towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. Students will be made to take extra science and liberal arts courses, and are advised to visit whichever institution they wish to transfer to for more information.

The South Central College Professional Nursing Associate in Science Degree is endorsed by the Minnesota Board of Nursing and Minnesota State Colleges and Universities. The South Central College Professional Nursing Associate Degree Program is an applicant for accreditation by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission
