Nursing program

  • The SDSU School of Nursing provides a robust academic and also the clinical background for entrance into professional nursing, as well possibilities for registered nurses (RNs) to further their education by obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Following are the minimum requirements for BSN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

  1. To be considered for admission to the Nursing Major, students must have a 2.7 cumulative GPA or higher, a 2.7 pre-nursing GPA or higher, and a grade of “C” or higher in all completed required pre-requisite courses. (The pre-nursing GPA is calculated based on grades received in the following pre-nursing courses: CHEM 106/106L or 112/112L, 108/108L or 114/114L; MICR 231/231L; BIOL 221/221L, 325/325L; PSYC 101; SOC 100, 150, or 240; NUTR 315; HDFS 210.)
  2. Students who have received a “D” or “F” in two or more of the pre-nursing science courses (CHEM 106/106L Chem Survey or 112/112L Gen Chem I; CHEM 108/108L Organic/Biochem or 114/114L Gen Chem II; MICR 231/231L General Microbiology; BIOL 221/221L Anatomy; BIOL 325/325L Physiology) within the past five years, will not be admitted to the Nursing Major.
  3. Students who have received a “D” or “F” in one pre-nursing course (CHEM 106/106L Chem Survey or 112/112L Gen Chem I; CHEM 108/108L Organic/Biochem or 114/114L Gen Chem II; MICR 231/231L General Microbiology; BIOL 221/221L Anatomy; BIOL 325/325L Physiology; PSYC 101 General Psychology; NUTR 315 Human Nutrition; HDFS 210 Lifespan Development; one of the following: SOC 100 Intro to Soc, 150 Social Problems, or 240 Soc of Rural America), repeated and received a “D” or “F” in the same course a second time, within the past five years, will not be admitted to the Nursing Major.
  4. Students who have taken Anatomy or Physiology more than seven years prior to their admission date will be required to update these courses.
