San Joaquin Valley College ADN-RN Nursing Program Prerequisites & Reviews

San Joaquin Valley College (SJVC) is a for-profit junior college with fourteen (14) campuses situated in California, United States Of America and a web-based division. San Joaquin Valley College was established in 1977 by Robert and Shirley Perry. San Joaquin Valley College is authorized by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, an institutional accrediting body acknowledged by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and the U.S. Division of Education.

San Joaquin Valley College is a private institution and is endorsed to function as a certified institution in the state of California by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE).

The college offers Associate of Science degrees, certificates, and continuing education opportunities in the aspect of Business, Health, and Technology.

NURSING

San Joaquin Valley College campuses (Visalia and Ontario) offers a Registered Nursing (RN) Training program that prepares students to work within the health-care delivery system. Graduates are trained as communicators and collaborators, providers and managers of care, and client advocates and educators. Successful graduates are awarded an Associate of Science Degree.

SJVC’s Registered Nursing Training program is endorsed by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN ).

Graduates of the training program are qualified to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Graduates who successfully pass the NCLEX-RN will be qualified for licensure to practice as a registered nurse in California, USA.

Total program cost is USD $11,200

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include: 

In order to be eligible for the Registered Nurse program, applicants must have a high school diploma, current BLS certification from the American Heart Association and have completed the necessary prerequisites with a GPA of 2.5 or higher from an institution accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Prerequisite Courses:

  • Writing and Composition
  • Intermediate Algebra
  • Human Anatomy with Lab
  • General Chemistry with Lab
  • Introduction to Sociology or Cultural Anthropology
  • Introduction to Public Speaking/Oral Communication
  • Microbiology with Lab
  • Human Physiology with Lab
  • General Psychology

In addition, students must complete 3 units within GE Breadth Area C2 (literature, philosophy, foreign language) to fulfil the general education associate degree requirements. If the student does not have units to transfer, the following course may be taken at SJVC: PHIL 1C: Ethics (3.0 Units) Ethics must be taken at SJVC if not transferred in at the time of enrolment.

To be considered for the program, applicants must also meet the technical standards. Technical standards provide a reference against which candidates for enrolment to the program are evaluated by the Admissions Committee in the selection of students for the RN program.
