Nursing Program
Nursing is offered on all three Northern Oklahoma College campuses: Enid, Tonkawa, and Stillwater. The nursing training program is certified by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and endorsed by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing. Upon successful completion of this degree, a student is qualified to take the NCLEX-RN examination.
After successful passage of this examination, the pupil is a Registered Nurse ready to pursue a career in nursing. Licensed Practical Nurse-ADN track is also offered in Northern Oklahoma College and has two options: Challenge route for LPNs who did not graduate from an ACEN certified training program and direct articulation route-for Licensed Practical Nurses who graduated from an ACEN certified training program.

Northern Oklahoma College (N0C) is a community college situated in Tonkawa, Oklahoma, with extra campuses situated in Enid, Oklahoma and Stillwater, Oklahoma. Pupil enrollment is roughly 2,700.

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:
- College rentention GPA or High school retention GPA
- College Biology or chemistry grade with 5 years unless has a degree
– BISI 1114 or equivalent or
– CHEM 1314 or equivalent or
- High school AP biology or AP chemistry Grade
- ACT or HESI A2 composite score- must have taken within the last 3 years
- Health related experience- includes work/volunteer experience will only count the highest score
- Previous college degrees- will only count the highest degree earned; masters, bachelors or associates.
- writing components- typed at least a 10-points font, 75-200 words in length that answers the following questions:
- why are you interested in nursing?
- why should we choose you for a nursing student?
Challenge route-for LPNs who did not graduate from an ACEN accredited program
- hold current active unencumbered LPN license
- meet criteria for admission to the nursing program
- complete required core courses with a grade of “C” or better
- successfully pass 3 exams. (NLN tests – (1) Foundations of Nursing, (2) Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing and (3) Care of the Adult Client or Excelsior tests Fundamentals of Nursing (2) Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing and (3) Adult Nursing). These tests must be taken by March 1st.
- successfully complete summer LPN transition course with at least a “C”.
- successfully complete summer LPN psychiatric course with at least a “C” if did
not have a psych clinical rotation of at least 24 clinical hours or did not successfully pass the Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursingexam.
- Upon completion of requirements the LPN will be eligible to enroll in sophomore
level nursing courses as space is available. Advanced positions are competitive in terms of the student’s ability to achieve at the level of entry and the capacity of the program to accommodate additional students at that level. College retention GPA may be used to determine eligibility if needed.
- Credit for the challenged nursing courses will be recorded with a grade of “Pass” and filed with the registrar’s office after completion of 12 credit hours.
- The nursing program must be entered within one-two (1-2) calendar year after
passing the summer LPN transition course.
Direct articulation route-for LPNs who graduated from an ACEN accredited program.
- must be currently licensed as an LPN with no restriction/sanctions/disciplinary actions/conditions
- must have graduated from a fomerly ACEN school approval within 5 years.
- the applicant must complete at least 17 credits of general education and more courses before entry into the fall semester nursing course (NURS 2334). These credit must include:
- PSYC 1113 general psychology with a minimum grade of “C”
- BISI 1114 biology or BISI 1124 biology for majors or CHEM 1314- general chemistry I CHEM 1314 chemistry I
- BISI 2214 Human anatomy & physiology with a minimum grade of “C”
- NURS 1253 introduction to nursing with a minimum grade of “C”
- NURS 1353 Introduction to psychiatric nursing with a minimum grade of “C”if did not have a psych clinical rotation of at least 24 hours.
