Nursing Program        

Northern Essex Community College is the perfect educational institution for those wanting to earn an Associate Degree in Nursing Program. The degree is intended for practical nurses and especially those that are sympathetic, caring, and organized.

The program prepares students to gain the necessary knowledge and skills essential for becoming a good nurse. The nursing program is fully accredited by NLNAC and upon graduation; the students are eligible for NCLEX-RN.

About the school

Northern Essex Community College NECC or NECCO is a two-year community college situated in Essex County, northeastern Massachusetts.

The college provides educational services to the residents of the Southern New Hampshire and Merrimack Valley. It has campuses in Lawrence and Haverhill Massachusetts.

Northern Essex is now one of 15 community colleges in the famous Massachusetts Higher Education system. It boasts of over 6,600 students enrollment in about 70 credit certificate, and associate degree programs and another 3,400 take non-credit community education and workforce development classes on campus, and at community sites and businesses across the Merrimack Valley.

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

Academic Advising: Individuals interested in applying to the Nursing Program are required to meet with an advisor when starting the admission process to assist with questions and clarify the process. You can walk-in to the Advising Center on either the Haverhill or Lawrence campus and ask to meet with an advisor.

¨ APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION (if you are a new student or have not been enrolled for the previous three years) Major Choice: General Studies: Health Specialization, Interest in Associate Degree Nursing.

¨ Official high school transcript(s) showing evidence of high school graduation, or the equivalent with passing GED or HiSET scores.

¨ Official college transcript(s) if transfer credits are being requested. GPA 2.0 or higher.

¨ Must attend a Mandatory Nursing Information Session within the 2017 application cycle. For Information Session dates, go to – http://www.necc.mass.edu/academics/courses-programs/areas/health/information-sessions/.

¨ All sciences regardless of where the sciences were taken that are being used to meet the Criteria for the ADN Program can only be taken a total of two times each in order to make the require “B” or higher grade. For example, if a student made a “C” in Chemistry and a “C+” in the appropriate Biology course that could be used for the Criteria, the student only has one more try for each science course when applying to the ADN Program.

¨ Two science courses, one of which must be either High School Chemistry, Intro to Chemistry or Physiological Chemistry. The second science course must be one of the following: Human Biology with Lab, Anatomy and Physiology with Lab, completed at either the high school or college level, Associate Degree in Nursing 2 with a grade of “B” or higher.

Program sciences must be completed within five (5) years prior to the anticipated start date of the nursing program to count as credits towards completing the program. Specific science courses listed above completed beyond the five-year limit with a grade of “B” or higher may serve to meet the admissions criteria only. There is a process to request an exemption from the five year limit on sciences. See an advisor for information. All science courses listed above as being eligible to meet the criteria required for review MUST be completed with a grade of “B” or higher.
