Following are the minimum requirements for BSN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

Freshman Applicants

If you have fewer than 24 college semester hours before January 15, you will apply as freshmen.

• Apply to NIU; indicate nursing as your intended major
• Submit application and required documents to the Office of Admissions by January 15.

Admission is based on your ACT scores, high school rank and/or GPA and reading comprehension score. Highly qualified applicants may receive early admission prior to January 15.

Transfer Applicants

If you have more than 24 college semester hours and/or are transferring from another university or college:

• Apply to NIU; indicate nursing as your intended major
• Submit application and required documents to the Office of Admissions by January 15.

You must have completed at least five of the nursing prerequisite courses with a C or better by the application deadline. Admission is competitive and based primarily on your GPA in those prerequisite courses. It is also based on your overall GPA, number of prerequisite courses completed and reading comprehension score.

Current NIU Students

• If you have more than 24 college semester hours you will apply as a transfer, even if you are a current NIU student.
• Current NIU students must submit a paper application through the College of Health and Human Sciences in Wirtz 227 or at the Nursing Building, Room 190. All applications must be submitted by January 15.
• You must have completed at least five of the nursing prerequisite courses with a C or better by the application deadline.
• Admission is competitive and based primarily on your GPA in those prerequisite courses. It is also based on your overall GPA, number of prerequisite courses completed and reading comprehension score.
