Nursing Program
The Nursing Division offers a curriculum, certified by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), leading to an Associate in Science (AS) Degree and meets the eligibility to sit and take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN).
The objective of our training program is to prepare pre-licensed RN pupils to practice safe and also dependable patient-centered nursing care in many different health functions, to optimize human health and well-being potential across the lifetime, within a swiftly transforming health-care system.
It is built to empower pupils with the knowledge and competencies that are important in fulfilling the health-care needs of a various population within our community and to encourage in the pupil a sense of credibility, dedication, and competence.

Nassau Community College is a two-year college situated in Garden City, New York, United States. The institution is in Nassau County on Long Island. Nassau Community College upholds a national reputation for the convenience of transferability to four (4) year institutions. It was founded in 1959.

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:
- Scores obtained on the Nursing admissions test (TEAS or Test of Essential Academic Skills).
- Those applicants who are required to take the College’s placement examination in reading, English and mathematics, and whose test scores indicate a need for remediation in any of these subject areas, must complete all mandated remedial requirements before entering the Nursing Program.
APPLICANTS SEEKING ADMISSION WITH ONLY HIGH SCHOOL CREDENTIALS
These requirements are:
- Average of at least 80 in three years of English
- Average of at least 80 in two years of college preparatory math
- Average of at least 80 in three years of science, including a year of biology
- Average of at least 80 in English, math and science grades, combined
Meeting these criteria is not a guarantee of admission; rather, it means that you will be considered for admission.
APPLICANTS WITH PRIOR COLLEGE CREDITS
- Their results on the TEAS exam- Your scores must be at least in the “Proficient” range (score of 58.7 or higher) in reading, math and English in order for you to remain eligible for consideration for admission to NCC’s Nursing Program.
Their performance in the general education/liberal arts courses that are part of the Nursing Program curriculum
- Only courses that were completed with a grade of “C” (2.0) or higher are considered. The average of your grades for these courses must be at least a “B” (3.0).
- Courses that are not a part of NCC’s Nursing Program are disregarded.
- The more courses you have completed from the 33 general education/liberal arts courses in the Nursing Program, and the higher your grades in these courses, the greater your chance of admission to the Nursing Program.
- Applicable science courses completed ten or more years prior to admission to nursing will not be accepted.
- Applicants will not be considered for admission to the Nursing Program if they have attempted AHS 131 more than twice (including grades below “C” and grades of “W”), at NCC or elsewhere, in the 10 years preceding admission to the Nursing Program.
CHANGE OF PROGRAM APPLICANTS
Some students entering NCC may wish to complete some, or all, of the general education/liberal arts courses in the Nursing Program prior to applying for Nursing.
- Students generally enroll as liberal arts students in the Associate in Arts program (LAAA).
- Students who have already earned an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree generally enroll as non-degree students.
- Please consult the Admissions Office concerning your application options.
If you are currently attending NCC as a matriculated student:
- Apply directly to the Nursing Program as a “Change of Program” student; do not file a new application for admission through the Admissions Office.
- Present your transcripts (from ALL colleges attended, including NCC) and your TEAS score report to the Nursing Department (Life Sciences Building, Room 319).
- Applications are accepted from the first Monday in March through the last Friday in March, for consideration for admission the following September. In September, there is both a daytime program and a small evening program.
- Applications are accepted from the first Monday in October to the last Friday in October, for consideration for admission the following January. In January, there is only a daytime program
If the last college you attended was NCC, but you are not currently in attendance:
- Please readmit through the Office of Admissions, using a paper Readmit application, and inform the office staff that you are interested in applying to the Nursing Program.
- All of the deadlines and TEAS information above still apply.
If you are currently attending NCC as a non-degree student:
- Apply to the Nursing Program through the Office of Admissions, using a paper Readmit application.
- All of the deadlines and TEAS information above still apply.
TRANSFER APPLICANTS
You are considered a transfer applicant to the Nursing Program if you have either:
- Attended college anywhere, except NCC
- Attended NCC, but attended another college since last attending NCC
Transfer applicants should apply to Nassau’s Nursing Program through the Office of Admissions by following these steps:
- Complete NCC’s Application for Admission, paying the appropriate application fee
- Have official transcripts from ALL previous colleges attended sent to:
