Nursing program

• Mount Saint Mary’s University was the first Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) training program in the State of California and, since the founding in the year 1928, they have graduated hundreds into the nursing profession.
• Upon graduation, you will have obtained the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Baccalaureate Essentials and also Quality and Safety Education for Nurses competencies. You will be qualified to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) examination and meet the requirements to earn a California Public Health Nursing Certificate.
• The Traditional BSN is a four-year baccalaureate training program which is certified by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education along with the California Board of Registered Nursing (RN). Graduates of the BSN nursing training program meet the requirements for certification as public health nurses and licensure as registered nurses. At the successful completion of the prerequisite courses at the Mount Saint Mary’s University, one will be considered for entrance into the TBSN Training program.
• The Accelerated Baccalaureate Nursing (AccBSN) training program offers the BSN training program to pupils already holding a Bachelor’s Degree. The Accelerated Baccalaureate Nursing training program is endorsed by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
• RN- TO- BSN training program: Applicants must have completed a Registered Nurse training program and be certified to practice in California. The student must fulfill all the nursing courses within five years from the date of admittance into the Nursing Department.

***Traditional BSN

• To be considered for admission you must have a minimum 3.0 overall GPA, and a minimum 2.7 GPA in your Science courses. In addition, you must complete and submit an application along with all supporting documents. All required documents must be in the Office of Admission by the application deadline (February 1st) or post-marked by the application deadline.

• Demonstrate English competency by achievement of a score of 213 in he Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) – Applicable to foreign students only.
• Be accepted for admission by the College.
• Have a GPA of 3.0 for all transferable college work.
• Have a minimum of a “C” in all courses required for the nursing major. Required courses, for the nursing major may be repeated one time only.
• Must have taken the following science courses: Chemistry/Physics, Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology.
• Possess a valid and clear, current Registered Nurse license to practice in the state of California.
• Have completed a minimum of one year of clinical experience as a licensed Registered Nurse within the last five years. The Department of Nursing will review and approve the quality of the clinical experience. This is waived for ADN graduates who have graduated within a year of admission to the BSN program.
• Have a satisfactory rating on the Validation of Clinical Competence form. This form is to be completed by an immediate nursing supervisor. (ADN graduates who have graduated within a year of admission to the BSN program may have the form completed by a clinical instructor).
• Be available for an interview if necessary.
