Nursing program

  • The Montana State University School of Nursing has been educating pupils for careers in nursing since in the year 1937. It is the most ancient state-supported institution offering nursing education in Montana as well as the only institution offering master’s degrees in nursing. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing training program can be completed in 8-semesters with proper planning.
  • The undergraduate Baccalaureate Training program has had continuous authorization by the State Board of Nursing since 1937 and also has received continuous national licensing since in the year 1949. The accreditation process evaluates the School with regards to national standards of high quality in nursing education.
  • The Baccalaureate training program includes 2-years of lower-division study that can be completed at any campus and also 2-years of study at an upper-division campus location (Great Falls, Bozeman, Billings, Kalispell, and Missoula).
  • Graduates of the training program are recommended for admittance to the licensing exam for registered nurses. Montana State University graduates are highly prosperous on the NCLEX-RN (State Board) exams, continually surpassing national standards for pass rates.

About the school

  • Montana State University (MSU) is a land-grant institution situated in Bozeman, Montana, United States of America.
  • It is the state’s biggest University and also a primary campus in the Montana State University System, which is a part of the Montana University System.

Following are the minimum requirements for BSN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

Students are admitted to Pre-Nursing with admission to Montana State University and admitted to Nursing when accepted to Upper Division (junior and senior level nursing courses).

  1. Graduation from a high school accredited by the state accrediting agency or a passing score on an approved high school equivalency exam such as HiSET or GED. Students who complete their secondary education through home schooling or at unaccredited secondary schools may be admitted as long as they have satisfactorily performed on the ACT or SAT test.
  2. A calculated GPA of 3.0 or higher in required prerequisite courses is required to apply to the nursing program. Students are awarded placement based on their pre-requisite course work GPA. Selection moves from the highest GPA downward until all seats are filled. Historically, this has been a GPA of at least 3.5; this does vary with each applicant pool, however. Students should work closely with their advisor each semester to ensure readiness for application.
  3. All required prerequisite courses must be completed with a grade of C or better (C- Grades are not acceptable) and no more than 2 of the required prerequisites courses may be repeated 1 time to earn a grade of C or better.
  4. At least 3 of the 5 required natural science courses must be completed with a grade of C or better to apply to the nursing program. Those courses are: BIOH 201**, BIOH 211, BIOM 250, CHMY 121 and CHMY 123.

**BIOH 201 (Anatomy and Physiology I) MUST be one of the three completed science courses in order to apply

  1. A MSU-Bozeman cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher is required prior to enrolling in the first semester of the junior year of upper division coursework.
  2. Campus placements will be based on the student’s ranking of campus (5 in the fall, 4 in the spring) on his/her application. If a student is not offered his/her 1st campus choice, he/she may request to be on the wait list for the desired campus and if not placed from the wait list, may re-apply during the next application period.
  3. A urine drug screen, background check and immunization information are required at the time of application. The College of Nursing utilizes CastleBranch®, an accredited member of the National Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS) for compliance tracking. Instructions for accessing your account, and completing the urine drug screen, background check, immunization tracking and e-learning, will be supplied in the application.
