Nursing program

  • The nursing curriculum at Minnesota State University is built to provide chances for the student to build a sound theoretical and also clinical foundation for the practice of professional nursing. The graduate is prepared for various positions in the community, including the duty for health promotion; prevention of illness; and also caring for the unhealthy in the community, the hospital and the home.
  • An understanding of individuals and also how they adjust to the environment is necessary to the provision of these health­care services.
  • Graduates of the training program are prepared to take the National Council Licensure Examination-Registered Nurse. Successfully passing this examination enables the graduate to practice as a registered nurse (RN). Graduates will have satisfied the criteria for certification as public health nurse and also licensure as school nurses in Minnesota.

  • Minnesota State University, Mankato, commonly called Minnesota State, is a comprehensive public institution situated in Mankato, Minnesota, United States.
  • Established as Mankato Normal School in 1868, it is the second most ancient associate of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System.

Following are the minimum requirements for BSN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

Application for admission to the School of Nursing is a separate process and in addition to being admitted to the University.

Requirements for application to Basic Nursing Program:

  1. Completion of at least 30 semester credits
  2. A minimum career grade point average of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale
  3. Minimum grade of “C” in all required prerequisite and support courses

Core Prerequisite Courses:

  • BIOL 220: Human Anatomy
  • ENG 101: Composition
  • GEOG 103: Intro to Cultural Geography
  • CHEM 111: Chemistry of Life Process, Part II
  • NURS 101W: Courage, Caring and Team Building
  • BIOL 330: Principles of Human Physiology
  • STAT 154: Elementary Statistics
  • KSP 235: Human Development

Support Prerequisite Courses:

  • PSYC 101: Introduction to Psychological Science
  • FCS 242: Nutrition for Healthcare Professionals
  • BIOL 270: Microbiology
  • NURS 282: Pathophysiology for Healthcare Professionals
  • NURS 284: Pharmacology for Healthcare Professionals
  • NURS 286: Relationship­based Care in Nursing Practice

All prerequisite Core and Support courses require a minimum grade of a ‘C’ and must be taken for a letter grade; P/N is not acceptable.  A student may repeat each Core prerequisite class once and only once for the purpose of improving a ‘C+’ or lower grade. Applications to the Basic Nursing Program occur every semester. Eligible applicants must complete the HESI Evolve Reach

Admission Assessment Exam. This Exam includes math, grammar, reading comprehension, vocabulary, anatomy & physiology, and chemistry.  An interview may be required during the application period as well.
