Nursing Program
The Associate of Science in Nursing Training program in Mississippi University for Women grooms nurses to provide care to patients in the community with acute and chronic health-care needs where policies and processes reflect present nursing standards of care and practices.
The department offers two tracks: a Generic Option for eligible pupils that presently do not have any experience in nursing, this is a revolutionary, fast-paced, two-year training program leading to an Associate of Science (AS) in Nursing degree. And also an Advanced Placement Option for pupils with an LPN to become a Registered Nurse. This is a revolutionary and fast-paced option leading to an Associate of Science (AS) in Nursing degree.
ABOUT THE SCHOOL
Mississippi University for Women also referred to as MUW or simply just the “W” is a four-year coeducational public university situated in Columbus, Mississippi. It was initially referred to as Industrial Institute and College (II&C) and later on Mississippi State College for Women (MSCW). Men have been offered admission to Mississippi University for Women since the year 1982.
Upon its founding in 1884, Mississippi University for Women became the very first public women’s college in the United States.
Total estimated program cost is USD $13,000- $15,000 for both tracks
Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:
ASN Generic Option Admission Requirements
- Prerequisite courses must be completed as follows:
College Algebra
Minimum Grade = C
Human Anatomy & Physiology I
Minimum Grade = C
Human Anatomy & Physiology II
Minimum Grade = C
- MUW GPA and overall GPA on all work attempted must be = or > 2.5. Official transcripts from all colleges attended, including MUW, must be mailed to the ASN Program office along with the completed Application for Admission to the ASN Program.
- An official document showing ACT score must be submitted with the application. A score on a transcript, or a score sheet (or copy) from ACT will be acceptable.
ASN LPN/RN Advanced Placement Admission Requirements
New applications are posted to the website by the first week of December yearly.
- All applicants must have a current unencumbered Mississippi LPN license and must have verification of at least one year’s work experience as an LPN in a clinical setting within the last two years prior to admission to the LPN/RN Advanced Placement Option. Documentation from employer(s) on official letterhead must be submitted with application.
- Prerequisite courses must be completed as follows:
