Nursing program

The goal of the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) major is to educate the beginner student with the skills, knowledge, and attitudes required to enter the demanding practice of professional nursing. Registered nurses are highly held leaders who manage staff and patient care in different settings. This four-semester program can be concluded in two years.

 

About the school

Minnesota State College-Southeast is a technical and community college with campuses situated in Winona, and Red Wing Minnesota. It is part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system.

The Winona campus was established in 1949 as the Winona Area Vocational-Technical School.  Minnesota State College Southeast offers the associate of arts degree as well as technical programs.

The Higher Learning Commission accredits Minnesota State College Southeast

Tuition and fees are approximately $15,406

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

Admission to the Minnesota State College Southeast (MSCS) Nursing Program is a three-step process.

All items must be completed in order to be considered an applicant for admission to the nursing program.

STEP ONE – Admission to Minnesota State College Southeast

  • Students not enrolled at MSCS must apply online and submit the $20.00 application fee.
  • In order to be considered for the Nursing Program, you must be accepted to MSCS.
  • Request college transcripts from all institutions the applicant has attended (except any Minnesota State Colleges & Universities institutions attended after 1990). Official transcript(s) from any other colleges must be sent directly from the previous institution(s) to the Registrar’s Office.

STEP TWO – Complete the Accuplacer placement test at MSCS

  • If the Accuplacer was taken at another location, submit a copy of the results. Test scores cannot be over 2 years (math) or 3 years (reading) to fulfill this requirement.
  • Ask for “Branching profile 03 Health” to incorporate the Computer Proficiency test when taking the Accuplacer.

STEP THREE – Apply to the Associate Degree Nursing Program

  • The deadline to be considered for admission to the nursing program:
  • Fall Semester – PRIORITY ACCEPTANCE no later than NOON on June 1

We will continue to accept applications until August 1 or the program fills.

  • Spring Semester – PRIORITY ACCEPTANCE no later than NOON on October 1

We will continue to accept applications until November 1 or the program fills.

  • Submit all of the following to the nursing department
  • Complete this Associate Degree Nursing Applicant Documentation Form and provide all supporting documentation. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure the accuracy of the application. Incomplete applications will NOT be considered for the program.
  • Review and Sign the Nursing Program Essential Abilities Form

 

PREREQUISITES

Math Prerequisite (a Math course is ALSO required for the program)

  1. Accuplacer COLLEGE LEVEL MATH minimum score of 50. (Test scores cannot be over 2 years to use as a prerequisite) OR
  2. ACT math score of 22 or higher (Test scores cannot be over 2 years to use as a prerequisite) OR
  3. Completion of MATH1555 Algebra or MATH1577 Special Topics in Math or MATH0990 STATWAY Statistics 1 with a grade of “C” or higher. OR
  4. Requirement waived with an official transcript documenting a transfer course of equal or higher level

** Please note: higher Accuplacer scores may be required as a prerequisite to certain General Education courses. Please check course prerequisites when planning your educational path.

 

Communication/English Prerequisite (an English course is ALSO required for the program)

  1. Accuplacer READING COMPREHENSION score of 78. (Test scores cannot be over 3 years to use as a prerequisite) OR
  2. ACT English score of 18 or higher (Test scores cannot be over 3 years to use as a prerequisite) OR
  3. Completion of ENGL0528 Reading & Writing 3 with a grade of “C” or higher

OR

  1. Requirement waived with an official transcript documenting a transfer course of equal or higher level

** Please note: higher Accuplacer scores may be required as a prerequisite to certain General Education courses. Please check course prerequisites when planning your educational path.

Advanced Placement for Licensed Practial Nurses:

  1. Evidence of licensure as a Practical Nurse (LPN) AND
  2. Evidence of 1000 hours worked as an LPN within the last two years
