Merced College is a community college situated in Merced, California, United States.

In 1961, the Merced High and LeGrand High School Districts petitioned the State Board of Education for authorization to set an election to endorse the establishment of a junior college district in Merced County. The State Board of Education endorsed the proposal for the Merced County Junior College on November 10, in the year 1961. The County Chief of Schools set February 27, in the year 1962, as the date for the election. Before the election, Robert Clemo, Chief of the Bureau of School District Organization, together with Loren Wann, carried out a review to determine if Merced County had an adequate number of pupils at the time and in the long term, if the tax base was high enough to assist a community college, and whether or not a need for a separate junior college ( to separate from Modesto Junior College) existed. The answer to all three questions was yes. The vote in the election was 3996 in favor and also 1494 opposed.

The initial regulating board was chosen and sworn into office in 1962. It was made up of the following individuals: Buddy Iwata, George Clark, Byron Cunningham, Donald Robinson, and John Hann. Buddy Iwata was the very first board chairman, George Clark was the vice-chairman, and Byron Cunningham was the secretary.

NURSING

The Registered Nursing Training program at Merced College prepares students to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN), leading to licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) and is built to prepare qualified nurses for service in the community. The Registered Nursing (RN) Training program requires two academic years beyond the completion of the required courses and non-Nursing requirements. Graduates will earn the Associate of Science Degree (AS) upon completion of designated courses and also competency demands.

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include: 

1. High School Education or the Equivalent
2. Successful completion of all program prerequisites with a grade of “C” or better and combined GPA of 2.5 or higher (ENG- College Composition and reading, BIOL-16- General Human Anatomy, BIOL-18- Principles of Physiology, BIOL-20- Microbiology, MATH-C- Intermediate Algebra (or higher Math course).

* Recommended completion within five years of acceptance to the program.

3. Evidence of good physical and emotional health is important and a Health Screening Survey is required of each Selectee.
4. A minimum passing score of 62 on Version V or ATI TEAS test. IF you have taken the TEAS test more than once, you must report your score on the FIRST attempt of Version V or ATI TEAS.
5. Acceptance Process: Upon notification of qualification for an RN class, the applicant must reply regarding acceptance of admission. The acceptance letter will outline all details. Failure to notify the Allied Health Office with a “Confirmation of Acceptance” in the prescribed time constitutes grounds to assign the applicant’s position to an alternate and the previous applicant’s name will be removed from the incoming class roster.
