Nursing program

• The Commission nursing on Collegiate Nursing Education certifies Lenoir-Rhyne’s Baccalaureate degree in; it was the 4th training program in the state of North Carolina to obtain accreditation as well as the very first fully certified training program at a faith-based college of university. The training program also has complete authorization from the North Carolina State Board of Nursing.
• The nursing curriculum is based on skills and competencies. Teaching methodologies and also student learning activities have been revised to mirror this perspective. Lenoir-Rhyne nursing students benefit from both the applied sciences along with a core curriculum based in the liberal arts. Pupils apply to the School of Nursing in the spring of their sophomore year. Once admitted, students commence the training program in the fall of the junior year. Upon graduation, nurses can take the national licensure examination (NCLEX®) and are ready to enter the nursing profession and also provide direct patient care. The graduate is also ready to pursue graduate study in nursing as well as to continue education in emerging nursing fields.

Following are the minimum requirements for BSN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

Admission to the nursing major is a competitive process, and students in pre-nursing are not guaranteed admission to the major. Students apply for admission to the major during the spring semester of the sophomore year. Students who are accepted matriculate into the major in the fall of the junior year. Factors that will be considered in the admission decision include:

1. The overall cumulative GPA of all courses taken toward the degree.
2. The cumulative GPA on courses taken from the nursing prerequisite list: BIO 220, 281, 282; CHE 101 or 103; HES 288; MAT 115 or 215; NUR 231, 235; PSY 100, 320; SOC 100; NAT 388.
3. The total number of hours completed toward the major.
4. The number of pre-requisite hours completed.
5. The number of hours completed at Lenoir-Rhyne.
6. The score on the ATI TEAS Exam.
7. Individual grades on specific pre-requisite courses listed above.

Students who are enrolled at Lenoir-Rhyne and wish to be considered for admission to the major should complete an application for Admission to the Major by March 1st.

To be eligible to apply for admission to the major a student must have:

1. Submitted an ATI TEAS Exam score at or above the Proficient Level of 63 by March 1st.
2. Submitted or have on file with the School of Nursing a satisfactory Health Form.
3. Submitted evidence of Training and Registration as Nurse Aide I in North Carolina or another state.
4. Completed or be able to complete a minimum of 60 semester hours in the pre -nursing curriculum before junior fall.
5. Earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.9 by the end of fall semester before the application is made.
6. Earned a Nursing GPA of 2.9 prior to fall semester of Junior year.
7. Completed or be enrolled in Nursing 231 & 235.
8. Admission to the school of nursing is contingent upon a satisfactory criminal background check, drug screen in August and submission of immunization documentation.
9. Have repeated no more than 1 science course.
10. Have earned a C-or better in the following: BIO 220, 281, 282 and CHE 101 or 103.
