Los Angeles Southwest College (LASC) is a community college situated in an unincorporated region of Los Angeles County, near the city of Los Angeles, USA. As a comprehensive community college, Los Angeles Southwest College offers university transfer, technical, and lifelong learning programs.
Los Angeles Southwest College was founded in 1967, two years after the Watts riots, in response to complaints of both officials and also citizens that too little was being implemented to educate the area’s mainly African American population. The institution, situated at the Junction of Western Avenue and Imperial Highway in South Los Angeles, United States, now serves an area population approximately evenly divided between African Americans and Latinos.
Los Angeles Southwest College offers several academic programs and also training in various workforce areas including technology-based occupations, business, music technology, electronics, and theater production. Los Angeles Southwest College also provides ESL and also citizenship classes.
Los Angeles Southwest College has secured over $400 million of a good rapport to complete its master plan by 2012. As a “green campus,” Los Angeles Southwest College has a college-wide recycling training program and will have the most of its building meeting a certain level of LEED standard.
NURSING
The Los Angeles Southwest College Registered Nursing Training program is a program that grooms students for an Associate of Science Degree with a major in Nursing.
Students who successfully complete the 2-year training program are prepared to function in entry level nursing and take the National Council Licensing Examination (NCLEX-RN) leading to licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
Total program cost is USD $12,790
Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:
- Contact the Nursing Office to attend a Nursing Applicant Information Session, where applicant will receive admission information including Nursing pre-requisite form, GPA verification form and TEAS. (Applications are only available at these sessions)
- Official Sealed transcripts (high school or GED equivalency and from all colleges and universities were pre-requisite college level coursework were preformed)
- Submit completed application and supporting materials between the 15th of January to the 15 of March and between the 15th July and 15th September.
Applications that are not presented with a complete set of supporting documentation will not be considered for the academic pool.
The most qualified candidates are admitted at the start of the semester following the application deadline. In the case of more qualified applicants than the number of seats allocated for the semester the selection process is conducted by a lottery purpose.
Applicants accepted into the program are expected to attend a mandatory all day Nursing Orientation meeting. A student who does not attend the orientation will forfeit his/her position which will be given to an alternate candidate. There is also a highly recommended six-week Orientation to Nursing Class.
Students need to complete all courses in the Nursing program with a ‘C’ grade or higher to advance in the program and earn the Associate of Science Degree.
