Nursing Program

The Associate Degree in Nursing Program at Labouré College, Massachusetts is where you can get the excellent training you need to start your career in nursing. This college integrates the Catholic identity with several useful courses, with the reason of creating new opportunities for those that want to become nurses.

Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing accredits the program ADN and the successful graduates are allowed to take the NCLEX-RN examination. Students are able to learn through classroom lectures; computer assisted instruction and nursing simulation sessions.

About the school

Labouré College is a Roman Catholic college established in 1892 as the Carney Hospital Training School for Nurses in South Boston and presently located in Milton, Massachusetts. It moved to its Dorchester site in 1954. The school is a four-year and two-year nursing and health science education programs.

In 1949, the institution merged with two other nursing schools operated by the St. Margaret’s School of Nursing in Dorchester and the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul: Massachusetts. They both formed the Catherine Labouré School of Nursing, named after St. Catherine Labouré, in 1950. The new school moved to the location of the new Carney Hospital in Dorchester in 1954.

It was authorized to start awarding degrees in Massachusetts in 1971 and change its name to the Catherine Labouré Junior College. Its name again changed in 1984 and in 1993, to Catherine Labouré College and later to simply Labouré College. The college became part of the Caritas Christi Health Care system in 1997, and its name was formally changed to Caritas Labouré College in 2005,  then back to Labouré College in 2009.

The annualized tuition rate for a first-time, full-time student enrolled in the Associate in Science in Nursing degree program is comparable to $33,903.

Admission Requirements

Applicants are responsible for submitting the following:

1. Completed application
2. $50 non-refundable application fee
3. Documentation of high school graduation, GED completion, or other state approved equivalency credential (waived for RN-BSN applicants)
4. Official college transcripts (if applicable)

Applicants should review the Program Specific Requirements below for any additional items needed.

Applicants whose native language is not English and who have not graduated from an American high school will be required to have their transcripts translated and evaluated by a professional evaluation company. The TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) exam may also be required.

Any and all documentation from schools attended in a foreign country must be translated into English, and converted into the American grading system.

The admissions process at Labouré College is run on a rolling basis. Rolling admissions means that there are no final deadlines to apply; rather, applications are reviewed as they become complete, and until a program is filled. Please be aware that programs with limited capacity can fill up quickly. In the event that a program is filled for a particular semester, the completed application will be considered for the next available semester.

The Office of Admissions encourages all applicants to submit their materials in a reasonable time frame prior to their desired semester.

Admission Criteria

Minimum academic expectations for ALL applicants are

• Evidence of graduation from an accredited high school or completion of a GED with a minimum standard score of 450 for each test
• Overall GPA of 2.0 or higher
• Strong foundation in reading, writing, math, and science

Applicants whose native language is not English and who have not graduated from an American high school should achieve no less than 100 (Internet-based exam), 600 (paper), or 250 (computer) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) examination.

 Prerequisites

The following programs have prerequisites. Prerequisites are specific courses that must be completed with a C or better before a student can be accepted to Labouré College.

Associate Degree Prerequisites

Applicants to our Associate in Science programs (Nursing and Radiation Therapy) must have the following prerequisite courses completed with a grade of C or higher:

High School Applicants (applicants currently enrolled in high school, or have graduated high school within the last five years and have no college experience)

• Mathematics: two years
• Science: one year of laboratory sciences (Biology or Chemistry)
• SAT scores may be submitted, but are not required

Transfer Applicants (applicants with some college background)

• Mathematics: one college-level mathematics class (such as College Algebra, or Statistics)
• Science: one 4-credit college-level life science with a laboratory section
