Nursing program
The Associate Degree Nursing program at Kishwaukee College equips students to offer high-quality, cost-effective and safe health care as a Registered Professional Nurse.
It is designed to equip the entry-level professional nurse to take the licensing examination for professional nurses (NCLEX-RN) upon graduation. The Registered Professional Nurse promotes patient safety through the use of ethics, evidence-based practice, technology, teamwork, and a focus on continuous quality enhancement. The syllabus includes theory in science, communications, and behavioral sciences including nursing.
The Kishwaukee College, Nursing Program curriculum, applies the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) Institute competencies to offer an organizing framework for curriculum content.
About the school
Kishwaukee College is the community college for the Illinois Community College District 523 situated in the west of Malta, Illinois. It serves most of DeKalb County, much of Ogle and Lee Counties, and small portions of other adjoining counties.
The college was established in 1968 and is fully accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. It has about 11,000 student population.

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:
Official Transcripts: Request your official High School or High School Equivalency Certificate transcript and official college transcripts from all colleges/universities attended.
▪ Transcripts must be in sealed envelopes, sent directly to Kishwaukee or by urself is fine as long as they are unopened.
▪ If u attended Kishwaukee, We will already have your transcripts on file.
▪ Submit your High School or G.E.D. transcript
- Placement Testing:
Contact the Counseling and Student Development Office at (815) 825- 9514 to schedule placement testing, if applicable.
▪, if you have only taken Math, and not English, then you will be required to take the English portion of the placement test. If you have only taken English, and not Math, then you will be required to take the Math portion of the placement test.
▪ You must take the Kishwaukee College placement test. No cost is currently associated with the placement test; it is free of charge.
- Nursing Information Meeting:
Attendance of a Nursing Information Meeting is not required, but is highly recommended. These meetings are held 1 to 2 times a month. The Nursing Coordinator will go over the admission criteria and different options available in the nursing program as well as out in the field. For those students who have already taken the placement test and/or have all of their official transcripts, the Coordinator of Nursing may be able to meet with students individually to review admission criteria, schedule classes, and inform the student of when they will be eligible to apply to the Nursing Program.
▪ How long do the information meetings last? o Normally, less than an hour. If you are able to meeting with the Coordinator of Nursing after the meeting, this will take additional time.
▪ Do I need to register for the information meeting? o No. No registration is necessary.
▪ If I am unable to meet with the Coordinator after the meeting, what should I do? o You may contact the Counseling and Student Development at (815) 825-9514 to make an appointment with a counselor to review your classes.
