Kirtland Community College ADN-RN Nursing Program Prerequisites & Reviews

Nursing program

The Associate in Applied Science in nursing program is planned to prepare students for entry-level positions as registered nurses. After successful completion of the ADN program, graduates are qualified to take the license exam to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN).

Each class of nursing students is known as a cohort (group), and courses/schedules are allotted. Graduates of the ADN program are eligible to enter the numerous BSN completion programs available.

About the school

Kirtland Community College is a public-funded, two-year community college situated in Roscommon County, Michigan in the United States.

Kirtland is endorsed by the Michigan Commission on College Accreditation and the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The College also holds membership in the American Association of Community Colleges and Michigan Community College Association. The Higher Learning Commission approved Kirtland Community College status as a candidate for accreditation in 1972, and the college has been qualified as an associate degree-granting institution since 1975. The college is named after the Kirtland’s warbler.

Established in 1966 under the stipulations of Michigan’s Public Act 188 of 1955, it is the state’s major community college district geographically comprising of all or part of nine counties.

Kirtland unlocked the doors of its five convenient classrooms in 1968 with 160 students. Financial Backing for the original land acquisition came from residents with bond incentives.

Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) Cost is 23,200

 

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

 Prerequisites and General Education Requirements

  • Choose one Anatomy & Physiology sequence.

A minimum grade of “B” is required in each course.

  • BIO 23500 Anatomy & Physiology I4 cr. and
  • BIO 23600 Anatomy & Physiology II4 cr.
  • or
  • BIO 25000 Human Anatomy4 cr. and
  • BIO 25100 Human Physiology4 cr.
  • ENG 10303 English Composition I3 cr.
  • A minimum grade of “C” is required.
  • MTH 12000 Intermediate Algebra4 cr. or MTH120PR or MTH 20600 Application in Statistics 4 cr.  A minimum grade of “C” is required.
  • PSY 10100 Intro to Psychology3 cr.
  • A minimum grade of “C” is required.

Total Prerequisite & General Education Credits: 14-18

Program Requirements

Each course in the program must be passed with a minimum grade of “C+”.

  • NUR 10515 Fundamentals of Nursing Practice5 cr.
  • NUR 10815 Nursing Across the Lifespan8 cr.
  • NUR 11015 Critical Thinking in Nursing2 cr.
  • NUR 21415 Nursing Pharmacology4 cr.
  • NUR 22215 Advanced Medical/Surgical I8 cr.
  • NUR 22415 Advanced Medical/Surgical II9 cr.
  • NUR 23215 Advanced Maternal/Pediatrics5 cr.
  • NUR 24215 Community Mental Health4 cr.
  • NUR 25215 Nursing Leadership3 cr.

Total Nursing Credits: 52.5

Minimum Total Program Requirements: 66.5
