Nursing program

The Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (AAS in Nursing) program at Kaskaskia College takes four semesters to conclude and consists of nursing courses and general education courses in English, psychology, sociology, and biology. AAS in Nursing students must take 22 credit hours to be able to graduate.

Upon graduation, they are qualified to take the National Council Licensing Exam for Registered Nurses (NCLEX_RN). As in the Practical Nursing certificate program, students of the AAS in Nursing program are required to be CNAs before entering and must have taken two semesters of high school biology or one semester of college biology.

About the school

Kaskaskia College is a comprehensive community college situated 60 miles east of St. Louis, Missouri. It serves part or all of nine counties, including Bond, Fayette, Clinton, Marion, Jefferson, St. Clair, Madison, Washington, and Montgomery. Kaskaskia College has the accreditation of The Higher Learning Commission.

It was founded in 1940 as Centralia Township Junior College via the Illinois Public Junior College Act of 1937. Centralia Junior College’s classes took place at Centralia High School, and its curriculum was structured after the University of Illinois sophomore and freshman courses.

 

Cost

  • The public in-state tuition of $6,112 is less than the state average of $7,252. The in-state tuition has grown by 7% over four years.
  • The public out-state tuition of $12,864 is more than the state average of $9,471. The out-state tuition has stayed relatively flat over four years.

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

Students must meet college English and Math requirements.

Must have completed Biology, Algebra and Computer Skills, one semester in college or two semesters in High School with grades of ‘C’ or better.

All students accepted into the Associate Degree Nursing Program must have a state certified Nurse Assistant certificate.

All students admitted to the program must have criminal background checks and drug screening.
