Nursing program
- Created for people with no previous nursing education and no Bachelor’s degree, Jefferson’s completely certified BSN training program provides an educational footing for professional nursing practice and also graduate study in nursing. Emphasizing the relationship between academic and also clinical experience, the training program promotes continued intellectual inquiry.
- The traditional Prelicensure BSN option enrolls pupils who have finished their first 2-years of prerequisite work at a different institution. The two-year traditional Prelicensure BSN option enrolls students who have completed their first 2-years of prerequisite work at a different school. Students complete four semesters of nursing theory and also clinical course work for an overall of 64 credits. The BSN Training program requires a total of 123 credits.
- Jefferson Nursing students learn clinical skills in a safe, simulated-patient atmosphere that is one of the nation’s leading centers of its kind. Coupled with their clinical practice at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, their BSN pupils graduate with more hours of clinical experience than is professionally needed.
- The Jefferson BSN graduates have continually scored among the highest pass rates on the national licensure exam of all PA professional nursing programs.

- The minimum GPA requirement is a cumulative undergraduate GPA and cumulative science GPA of at least 3.0. The minimum cumulative GPA does not guarantee admission.

Transcripts originating from academic institutions outside of the U.S. must be translated and a course-by-course evaluation performed by World Education Service or a comparable credential evaluation service.
- Submit a personal statement/essay describing your motivation or desire to become a nurse to TJAPP via the Questions tab in the Program Materials section.
- Recommendations (evaluations) are completed electronically in the TJAPP system. You will list your recommenders’ names and email addresses, and they will be emailed instructions for completing your recommendation in the TJAPP system. Two recommendations are required and should come from professors, managers/supervisors, volunteer coordinators, etc. Recommendations from colleagues, classmates and/or family members will not be accepted.
- All students who are offered admission are required to have a criminal background check and child abuse clearance. In addition, PA students who are offered admission are required to be fingerprinted and undergo a drug test. Some clinical sites may require health professions and pharmacy students to be fingerprinted and/or undergo a drug test. The Office of Admissions will provide you with the appropriate information to complete these requirements, as needed.
Course credit
59 credits from specific course areas. All science and math courses must be completed within 10 years of enrolling at Thomas Jefferson University. Courses must be completed at a regional accredited institution with a grade of “C” or above to be eligible for transfer. A grade of “C-” or below will not be eligible for transfer.
Acceptable elective courses are theory-based, not performance-based, coursework. For example, we will accept Introduction to Music but not Piano, and we will accept Introduction to Art but not Painting. We will not accept coursework that is remedial or review in nature, Physical Education or Technical courses. Coursework may include Arts, Humanities, Social Science, Foreign Languages, Science, Math, Business and History.
