Nursing Program

The Nursing Training program at Jackson State Community College grooms a graduate to satisfy the educational demands for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nursing (NCLEX-RN) and to start nursing practice in organized healthcare functions for instance hospitals, clinics and also extended-care amenities.

Nursing is a dynamic, applied discipline in which caring for the biological, spiritual, psychological, sociocultural, and also developmental needs of others is extremely important.

The Training program is completely endorsed by the Tennessee Board of Nursing and certified by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). A minimum of 65 credits are needed for the degree; the syllabus includes arts, science and also nursing courses.

About The School

Jackson State Community College is a publicly supported community institution situated in Jackson, Tennessee and managed under the auspices of the Tennessee Board of Regents, USA.

Total estimated tuition fee $15,225

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

  • Obtain regular full college admission and good academic standing status.
  • Complete all required learning support competencies, if applicable, before applying to the Nursing Program.
  • Submit a completed Nursing Program application to the Nursing Office by February 1st for summer admission to the LPN/RN Career Mobility Track option and March 1st for fall admission. August 1st is the application deadline for spring admission.
  • Fulfill the following academic requirements:
  • If applicants have no prior college experience, a high school cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
  • If applicants have prior college coursework, a college cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Submit official transcripts of high school, technology center, and college work to the Admissions Office by the application deadline.
  • Submit ACT exam scores.
  • Report if any license in any health care field has been disciplined, suspended, revoked, or denied.
  • Report any felony convictions.

It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure all application materials are received in the Nursing Office by the application deadline date. Applicants who meet the deadline will be notified in writing of their admission status. If the number of qualified applicants falls below the maximum enrollment, applications of those students who will be fulfilling the above-stated requirements prior to entering the nursing program will be considered.

Application for admission is considered for one application period only. Applicants who wish to be considered for admission into the next entering class must submit a new application. For the purpose of program admission, ACT scores are considered valid for up to five years from the test date. Information regarding the ACT is available at www.actstudent.org.

All applicants are evaluated on the basis of their scores on the ACT and their cumulative GPA. Selection for admission is based on an evaluation point system, which reflects the applicant’s ACT scores and cumulative GPA at the time of application. Additional points may be earned by additional assessments, specific measures of: college-level Anatomy and Physiology, and/or service-area residency. Qualified applicants are ranked according to the point system and those with the highest summed scores are selected to fill the class. Up to 20 candidates are placed on an alternate list. Details of the evaluation point system are available from the Nursing Program office. Because Jackson State is a state-supported institution and enrollment in the Nursing Program is limited, state residents will be given preference in the admission process.
