Nursing program

• As a graduate of an Indiana University – Purdue University Fort Wayne pre-licensure nursing training program, pupils will have obtained the knowledge and also skills required to provide high-quality health care and the academic credentials needed to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN). Upon successful completion of the exam, the pupil will be qualified to practice as a registered nurse. The baccalaureate degree (BS) graduate is ready at the professional level to function in a leadership position with other team associates in diverse and also complex health care settings.
• The IPFW Undergraduate Nursing Programs are accredited by the Indiana State Board of Nursing Health Profession Bureau and are in candidacy standing with the Commission On Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

Following are the minimum requirements for BSN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

Students follow a pre-nursing curriculum before applying to the IPFW nursing program.  Admission to the program is competitive and limited.

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

1) Be admitted to IPFW as a degree seeking student.

2) Complete the following 33 credit hours in the pre-nursing curriculum:

• ENG W131 – Elementary Composition (3 credit hours)
• PSY 12000 – Elementary Psychology (3 credit hours)
• COM 11400 – Fundamentals of Speech (3 credit hours)
• BIOL 20300 – Human Anatomy and Physiology (4 credit hours)
• CHM 10400 – Living Chemistry (3 credit hours)
• ENG W233 – Intermediate Expository Writing (3 credit hours)
• BIOL 20400 – Human Anatomy and Physiology (4 credit hours)
• FNN 30300 – Essentials of Nutrition (3 credit hours)
• BIOL 2200 – Microbiology for Health Professionals (4 credit hours)
• SOC S161 – Principles of Sociology OR ANTH E105 – Culture and Society ( 3 credit hours)

3) Take the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) scholastic aptitude assessment pre-admission examination the semester the student is applying to the nursing program.  Information about when to take the TEAS test can be obtained from the academic advisors.

Transfer students from other ACEN or CCNE accredited RN nursing programs may be considered for admission based on availability of space. Students must have completed 24 hours of credit with a GPA of 3.5 (4.0 scale) or higher.
