Nursing Program

The Iowa Lakes community college (ILCC) associate degree in nursing (ADN) training program prepares graduates as entry-level registered nurses (RNs) in both hospital and community-based functions. Graduates are qualified to take the NCLEX-RN licensure examination upon completion of the training program.

As a registered nurse (RN), you will possess the knowledge and competencies to complete assessments, provide necessary care and evaluate the performance of treatments for clients across the lifespan. Upon successful completion of your training program, you can find jobs in various settings like hospitals, clinics, schools, businesses,  community health, long-term care facilities, hospice, prisons and several more.

Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) is a community college situated in Estherville, Iowa, United States Of America, with satellite campuses in Emmetsburg, Algona, Spirit Lake and Spencer, Iowa United States of America. It serves Iowa Community College District III, which covers an area roughly contiguous with Clay, Emmet, Dickinson, Kossuth and Palo Alto counties. The controlling rural district covers and area of approximately 2,900 square miles as well as a population of just over 73,000. Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC)was formally founded in October 1966 by the Iowa Department of Education under the provision of Chapters 260C and also 260D, Code of Iowa, USA.

Iowa Lakes has established a special and respected role as an extensive community college (“Iowa College Student Aid Commission” 2016). The attractive Iowa Great Lakes District provides the setting for Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC). The College is situated in the center of the northwest quadrant of the state of Iowa (“Iowa College Student Aid Commission” 2016). The institution offers various academic as well as career training programs, for instance, customized training specially designed for area business and also industry.

Iowa Lakes also provides continuous education and general interest courses to adults and also more aged learners. Aside from traditional courses, some programs have a web-based option available. Based on the program of study, Iowa Lakes awards certificates, diplomas or the degree of Associate in Applied Science (AAS). Iowa Lakes Community College is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Education and the Higher Learning Commission.

 

Total program cost is $13,200

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include: 

  1. A student must attain a grade C or higher and a GPA of 2.5 or higher in the following college courses.
    a. Human Anatomy and Physiology I and Lab (BIO-168), 4 credits
    b.  College Chemistry and Lab (CHM-151), 4 credits
    c.  Introductory Biology and Lab (BIO-105), 4 credits
  2. Official high school transcript(s)/GED scores
  3. Official college transcript(s)
  4. Students must attain a grade C or higher prior to starting the core nursing courses.
    a. Intro to Psychology (PSY-111), 3 credits
  5. Submit ACT Results
    a.  Composite score of 20.
    b. The composite score will be based on English, reading, mathematics, and science scores. The additional “Writing Test” is not required.
    c. Students must request ACT to send official results to the Iowa Lakes Admissions Office.  Hand delivered results will not be accepted.
