Nursing program

  • The Bachelor of Science in Nursing Generic training program is meant for pupils who want to become nurses over a 4-year course of study in the liberal arts & sciences and also professional nursing. On completion of the training program, students meet the requirements to take the NCLEX-RN examination, the licensing exam for registered nurses.
  • The Bellevue School of Nursing at Hunter’s is the flagship nursing institution of the City University of New York.
  • The Bachelor of Science nursing curriculum also provides a solid foundation for graduate study at the Master’s and Doctoral levels, of which programs are offered at the Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing along with the CUNY Graduate Center.
  • The training program is designed for pupils to earn a baccalaureate degree in nursing in 4-years of regular study. The course of study features two parts: meeting general education and also prerequisite requirements in the liberal arts & sciences during the first year, and also advancing to professional nursing courses starting in year two. Pupils are required to attend the training program full time.

About the school

  • Hunter College, situated in the Lenox Hill neighborhood of the Upper East Side of Manhattan, is one of the constituent colleges of the City University of NY, an American public institution, USA.
  • Hunter was established in 1870 as a women’s college (it first accepted male freshmen in 1964). The primary campus has been situated on Park Avenue since 1873.

Total estimated cost of attendance is approximate $24,900

Following are the minimum requirements for BSN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:

Students are considered for admission to the nursing program in the spring semester of their freshman year after completing prerequisite course work and submitting an application to the School of Nursing. Only those admitted to the School of Nursing are allowed to declare nursing as their major.

Please read the following criteria carefully. You must meet all requirements below:

  1. Be admitted to Hunter College (lower division) as an undergraduate freshman or transfer student.
  2. File a separate application for admission to the Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing after meeting nursing prerequisite requirements (details below). For most students, the application is submitted early in the spring semester of the first year (Deadline: February 1).
  3. Have a Cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher (computed using all undergraduate courses from all schools) by the end of the fall semester preceding the nursing application. On average, admitted students have a GPA of 3.5.

 

  1. Prerequisite courses (or equivalent) taken for credit with a minimum grade of ‘B’ or higher in the science and math courses. Prerequisite courses offered by Hunter College are shown in parentheses:
  • General Chemistry with lab (CHEM 100/101)
  • Organic Chemistry with lab (CHEM 120/121)
  • Introduction to Statistics (STAT 113)
  • English Composition (ENGL 120)
  • General Psychology (PSYCH 100)
  • Human Development (PSYCH 150: Developmental Psychology of the Life Span) – 1 course
  • (1) US History Course (HIST 151, HIST 152, POLSC 110)
  1. Prerequisite courses taken at other institutions must be evaluated and transfered to your Hunter transcript with the appropriate Hunter course equivalencies prior to applying to the nursing program.
  2. Students may be enrolled in up to 4 prerequisite courses during the Spring semester of their application. Prerequisites may not be taken during the summer immediately preceding fall entry into the program. All prerequisite courses must be completed by June 1 with a GPA of 3.2 or better and minimum grades of ‘B’ in science and math courses, no exceptions.
  3. The School of Nursing does not accept repeated prerequisite courses.
