Nursing program
- The Traditional BSN is designed for pupils with no nursing licensure who are eager to become graduate nurses.
- The educational training program is built on a solid foundation of general studies which includes mathematics, language arts, social sciences, sciences, as well as current nursing practice. Graduates of the training program will be ready to practice in many health care functions.
- The Second Degree BSN is for individuals with a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a non-nursing field of study. The training program is roughly 22-24 months in duration.
- The Nursing training program has the complete authorization of the Georgia Board of Nursing and also certified by the CCNE.

Following are the minimum requirements for BSN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:
Traditional BSN
- Attain admission in good standing to the University.
- Return the completed nursing application and required supporting documents to the School of Nursing by the published deadline.
- Complete all general education/core curriculum courses by the end of the “Maymester” before entering the nursing program.
- Once enrolled at GSW, students must complete all science courses at GSW.
- Area F sciences must be completed within 5 years of projected admission. Testing is required for those applicants who completed these courses five years ago or longer. Remediation may be required
- Must have a grade of “C” or higher in Area A, Area D, and Area F (excluding elective in Area F).
- Earn a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0/4.0. Admission is competitive. A GPA of 3.0 does not guarantee admission. Calculation of GPA is based on grades in Area A, Area D, and Area F (excluding elective in Area F). If any of the applicable courses have been repeated, all attempts are included in this calculation.
- Must take HESI A2. Test scores should be printed out and included in the nursing application packet. If no printer is available and testing is at a site other than GSW, please select Georgia Southwestern State University when sending score electronically.
- Must not have been excluded from another nursing program for any reason, including but not limited to, academic misconduct, disruptive behaviour, or program failure. A nursing course failure in another institution counts as a course failure at this institution.
Second Degree BSN Program admission eligibility requirements:
- Attain admission in good standing to the University.
- Return the completed nursing application and required supporting documents to the School of Nursing by the published deadline.
- Must have completed a bachelor’s degree or higher from a recognized college or university with an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher prior to applying to the School of Nursing.
- Must have completed the following pre-requisites by the end of the “Maymester” before entering the nursing program:
- Area F with grade of “C” or higher
- BIOL 2030 Anatomy and Physiology I*
- BIOL 2040 Anatomy and Physiology II*
- BIOL 2050 Microbiology*
- PSYC 2103 Human Growth and Development
- Area D with grade of “C” or higher
- MATH 2204 Elementary Statistics (or equivalent course)
(A GPA will be figured using course grades in Area D and F -excluding the elective in Area F- as noted above with preference given to those with high scores. An unofficial transcript verifying final course grades must be submitted to the School of Nursing Student Services Coordinators office ASAP after completion.)
