Nursing program
The Associate Degree program comprises of a pre-nursing semester and four semesters of nursing coursework. It is authorized by the Michigan Board of Nursing and accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (formerly NLNAC).
The new applicant for licensure will be questioned about substance abuse and/or felony conviction. According to public statute, former crimes or misdemeanors for physical abuse, substance abuse and/or criminal sexual conduct are have a tendency to prevent an applicant from completing the program, taking the licensure exam NCLEX-RN and/or employment.
Upon request, the Nursing Director will deliver a list of rules and regulations governing licensure and employment in Michigan.

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards include:
- High school GPA of 2.5 (or GED equivalent) or a College GPA of at least 2.0 for students with 12 or more college credits.
- Chemistry with Lab (1 year in high school with C or higher, or college equivalent) GRCC: CHM 110 or higher.
- All students must demonstrate competency in math within the last 5 years to be eligible. Math competency can be demonstrated through any one of the following ways: SAT Math subsection score of 25 or higher, ACT Math score of 18 or higher, Math Placement Test (ALEKS PPL) with a score fo 30 or higher, completion of MA 098 or higher with a grade of C or better. - Biology (1 year in high school with C or higher, or college equivalent) GRCC: BI 101 or any BI class with lab.
- HESI Exam (scored subtests: math, reading comprehension, vocabulary and general knowledge, grammar) – There is a fee for this exam. Passing score on each subtest must be 75% or higher. For more info, visit our HESI Exam webpage.
- All prospective health students are required to submit to a criminal background check (CBC) to be eligible for all GRCC Health Programs.
- Background Check Form and ICHAT.
- Students may conduct their own ICHAT online and print off the results and bring that evidence, along with the Preliminary Background Check Form, to Campus Police or Health Admissions.

- Drug Screen: Must have a negative 7-panel urine drug screen. May use a drug screen done within the past 12 months. Results should be submitted to the Health Admissions Office, 600 College Park Plaza.
Foundational Courses and Academic Probation/Suspension (Effective fall 2015)
In order to be eligible for admission into the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) or Practical Nursing program, students must have successfully completed any required AFP courses with a grade of at least C and be in good academic standing. Any student placed on Academic Probation/Suspension while on the waitlist or while enrolled in either nursing program will be withdrawn. Students wishing to pursue nursing after this may re-apply after following GRCC’s academic suspension policy and returning to good academic standing.
Additional Information:
Candidates may apply for entry into the program at the end of their junior year in high school.
To be eligible for graduation from the ADN program, students must earn a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 in the prescribed ADN curriculum, and an 80% in each nursing course. Life science courses must have been completed within eight years of graduation/completion of the specific Health program at GRCC.
Transfer credit from college-credit-granting institutions for nursing courses may be granted if completed within three (3) years of application and a grade of C (2.0) or higher was earned.
The determination of the transferability of course credit rests with the Program Director and Associate Dean of the School of Workforce Development. In case of conflict, the Dean of the School of Workforce Development shall render a judgment.
Transfer credit for nursing courses will not be accepted from institutions/programs from which a student was dismissed.
Opportunities exist for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) with current unencumbered licenses to enter the ADN program with advanced standing. Contact the Director of Nursing Programs or view the Advanced Standing page for additional information.
Graduates of the Associate Degree Nursing Program may transfer all or part of the credit earned at GRCC to several colleges and universities toward a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
In addition to tuition, fees and books there are also costs for uniforms, etc.
